Guys, lighten up on yourselves, both!

I don't blame you one bit for feeling sad that your young-uns have

troubles that have to be fixed. But hey! We are talking about things

here that do HAVE fixes. They take time, they take patience, but they

can be repaired! The techniques are good now, and will probably be

even better in the future.

So don't be beating up on yourselves. (Not that any parent of a child

with any problem short of neglect or abuse should feel guilty.)

Everybody -- yes, EVERYBODY -- has something genetic going on,

whether it's a heart defect, a tendency to obesity or high blood

pressure, a youngster's extremely short or tall physical stature --

or more difficult things, I'd think, such as Down's syndrome, or

something deadly like leukemia. Surely I don't have to go through the

catalogue of horrors for us all to agree that most parents love their

children, and learn to help or not with whatever card comes up for

these cherished little ones.

My point is that you've already been through the process of dealing

with these things once. You've found good sources of support and

info, and you can help your children deal with them. You are good,

kind people who will care for your children, and that is the best

legacy you can give them. With that, they will be able to deal with

the other things they must, whatever comes at them!

I wouldn't want a child of mine to have to do so. Of course, we all

want our children, I think, to be perfect, bright, beautiful, caring,

popular, well-behaved, etc., etc., etc. But only by dealing with some

adversities do they, or we, ever grow.

Be of good cheer. Stay grateful for the beautiful, " perfect " kids you

have, and help them figure out answers for whatever problems (dental,

oral, orthognathic or other) they face. I know you can and will, so

neither one of you is a " horrible " (or even mediocre) mom!

and yours is so young. I pray that all will turn out very well for

her. I think it is so amazing that you can show so much concern for

my child and yours is going through even more. Bless your sweet

heart.
