I saw my surgeon today for a 12 week check up. My appt. lasted less

than 5 minutes. He quickly looked at my bite, grabbed my chin and

told me to come see him in 3 months! I also had 2 xrays taken. All

screws & plates are still where they are supposed to be.

He told me " You look amazing and are getting a great result " . He

elaborated and said that I am in the " fine tuning " stage of

orthodontia.

I still think my bite has room for improvement and hopefully my ortho

is trying to get it as perfect as possible. Every time I see my

ortho she is not even able to recall what surgery I had done. She

says, " , you had lower right? " . I always have to remind her

that I had upper only. How scary that she is responsible for my bite

and has no clue what I had done surgically.

As for what I can eat & how much I can open....At this point I am

eating whatever I want. Actually, come to think of it, when I was

cleared to chew at 6 weeks post op, I was eating normally

immediately. I really had to trouble at all withmy return to

chewing. I have no pain and can open my mouth just as wide as I

could before the surgery. Ofcourse I am still not biting into

apples, but I can chew gum without any problem even with the braces!

Reflecting back on this whole ordeal, the worst part was the waiting

for the actual surgery. Granted recovery was not " fun " but it

certainly was managable. After the first week, things really did

improve drastically. For as nervous, scared and obsessed as I was pre-

op, I think I did a really good job at recovering and getting back

into the swing of things ASAP.

I kept a daily journal the first 3 weeks of my recovery and I looked

at it last week. Made me laugh. I was sipping Chardonnay with my

blended dinner by day 7!!!! By the third week my saddest moments

were caused by me not being able to eat the olives in my martinis and

having to swallow bits of sushi and sashimi without chewing.

If I can lend my support to anyone that is pre-op or newly post op, I

would be glad to. You can reach me by instant message on AOL, my

screenname is Elijahdoll.
