Guest guest Posted January 8, 2004 Report Share Posted January 8, 2004 I had my lower jaw moved back 4-6mm 3 weeks ago. Originally, I was told it would be 4 weeks completely wired shut. I went today and was told that 4 weeks was probably a little too optimistic and it would probably be another 3 weeks before I'm on just bands (for a total of six). It's really frustrating b/c the swelling is almost completely gone, I never had numbness or bled after surgery, and all the nurses keep telling me they've never seen anyone heal so fast. I'd rather be on the safe side, but I go back to college next week and its going to be tough keeping up with the liquid diet when I have to prepare all the food myself w/o access to things like a stove, etc. I was realy counting on only spending one week at school like this, and now its three. I thought it was going so well and now this setback. I'm just wondering what the average recovery time for everyone is who had this procedure. Again, it was just my lower jaw and I didn't have plates or screws put in. I feel like my life is on hold until I can get over this b/c I can't really go out on weekends, can't talk clearly, I'm not eating meals with my friends, and I almost feel isolated.
