Experience with being Wired Shut?

Hello I'm . I am now 4 weeks post op after having upper and

lower done. Unfortunately I have to go back in for more surgery

because the lower jaw still needs a little work. The surgery won't

be nearly as intensive as the first but I still have to wait another

6 weeks before I can chew again. There is a chance that I will have

to be wired shut this time. This has me quite concerned because I

am currently in college. Does anybody have any experience with

being wired shut? How active where you able to be?

I had just my lower done and I've been wired shut for 3 weeks now,

and apparently 3 more to go. I'll be honest, its not a lot of fun.

The diet is one of the hardest parts, and the cream soup I've been

eating gets old fast. Usually, theres a splint thats used too to hold

your teeth in place so that the muscles and bones adjust and grow

back correctly. This does make it difficult to talk and I find I have

too write things out a lot. I go back to college next week and I'm

also kinda worried about dealing with it there. I'm taking a small

belnder back with me and pre-making some foods. Unfortunately, i

think my social life will be on hold for a couple weeks. In any case,

there really isn't a lot of pain involved, you just cant open your

mouth. You want to liquify things as much as possiblr. if you don't

it wont flow through your teeth/ splint. Even with soups it helps to

blend everything into it, and then strain it. It might look smooth,

but it has to be pretty thin to fit through. if you have any other

questions let me know.
