what is cost in US if no insurance?

I've been watching some of the threads about insurance woes and am

curious about what the cost is in the United States if there is no

insurance? In Canada, we have general health care coverage that

covers most of the cost -- for everyone, no questions asked if your

surgeon says you should do it. The extra cost (about $1100 US) is

paid by you (costs are panoramic xrays, splint, prescriptions, and a

few other things). The hopital, surgeon fees, anaesthetist etc. are

all paid for by our socialized health system. Some people, if they

have extra health coverage through work etc., get the whole thing

paid for. And if you are on social assistance, the whole thing would

be paid for. IN fact, my oral surgeon spends part of his year in

third-world countries doing operations on people who would otherwise

have no access to it. I had to pay the $1100, which is not minimal I

know, but at least it makes it within reach for most people. I just

saved for a while. I've seen people spend more on a television, and

this is much more important. I don't want to start a political

discussion, but when I read on this discussion board about people

having to cancel their surgery because of cost it really makes me

sad, and I'm grateful to live in a country that doesn't allow only

people with money to get adequate health care.
