Guest guest
Hi! I just came back from another appointment with my surgeon. I'm now almost 7 weeks post-op from my TMJ reconstruction. My bite is holding up well and my surgeon turned the screws for the final time today (I hope anyway.) The engineers that designed these particular distractors with my surgeon were there today as well. I was the first patient they had used these on so they were very interested to see the results and were happy with them. My surgeon was very excited and took a bunch of pictures so he could present my case at an upcoming conference. Now they are designing a new bone plate that slides into part of the distractor. That way when the surgeon removes the distractors, he will only have to remove part of them and the surgery will be less invasive. The new plates will be ready in about 3-4 weeks so I get to keep my " jewelry " for another 4-5 weeks. Speaking of jewelry, today a woman at the post office looked at the screws hanging out of my face and said " I've never seen piercings like that before! " . My husband replied with a straight face " You should see what else she has pierced. " She looked a little shocked until we explained to her what the " earrings " really were. I'm sure I'll hear a lot more of that when I return to work next week. I hope everyone else is doing well, too.
