Hi All,

Haven't posted in a while but I feel this strong urge to whine a

little and am hoping that you all don't mind.

I'm 42 and was told in January that I need surgery on my lower jaw to

correct a 10mm overbite, a crossbite, and also a deep bite (my upper

front teeth totally overlap my lower front teeth when I close) It

all started with me not liking my teeth and asking my regular dentist

about cosmetic dentistry. Next thing I know, we're talking braces,

surgery, three years in treatment and THEN cosmetic dentistry. I

have my first visit with an oral surgeon in San Francisco on April

5th and am really hoping that he agrees with my orthodontist on doing

just the lower jaw because I can be a little claustrophobic and am

really not wanting both done.

The whining part is that I feel that this has totally taken over my

life and I can't seem to get past the guilt that I feel over how much

this is going to cost. The braces alone are $7,000 (with no

orthodontic insurance coverage)and I have no idea at this point how

much of the surgery will be covered. My husband and I have been

trying to get back on our feet after several financial setbacks and

this is going to be putting our future on hold for even longer than

planned.

I have a whole laundry list of symptoms and complaints from my jaws

being so messed up so why can't I just accept the fact that this is

medically necessary and move on?

OK, I'm done. Thanks for listening!

Sue
