Guest guest
I am currently a college student and have noticed assymetry in my mid face and jaw region. I'm assuming my upper and lower jaw would have to be repositioned and braces would be needed to correct the problem. Since my dentist has not said anything, I'm thinking this would be a somewhat elective surgery that would correct a deformity in my jaw/face, but is not a medical emergency. Can anyone recommend what type of place I should go to just get a consoltation. An orthodontist? Craniofacial surgeon? Has anyone had any exprience regarding what percentage of this a typical insurance company would cover? Estimated price range? Thanks for any adive, D.C. Guest guest
There are a lot of reasons people may have this surgery, for me it started with TMJ problems and this being one of the steps in fixing it. I'm also a college student. I had my surgery last June during my summer break - so in that aspect it worked out well. I first went to my normal dentist who said " lining up your teeth will help " so he sent me to the orthodontist who told me I needed this surgery. Soon after I consulted with the surgeon he works with and I was on my way. I've heard of some people going to surgeon's first, so I don't think there's really a definite ORDER you have to do, but I suggest seeing your orthodontist first to see who he works with, etc. Price wise? Hmm.. My hospital stay was $25,000. My insurance covered all of it. I was definitely lucky. The surgeon's fees were around $14,000 but my insurance also covered the majority of that. It really depends on who your insurance is and how much people are willing to help you out. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to post or email me at browna44@....
