Benzocaine and Benzoic Acid

Does anyone know if Benzocaine and Benzoic Acid are related?

I recently tried Listerine Citrus " Less Intense " and I got that

wierd numb feeling I get when I use Benzocaine on my canker sores.

Benzoic Acid is listed in the inactive ingredients. Coincidence?

Why would they need to numb you? So you don't know just how intense

their mouthwash is?
