Guest guest
Drink lots of water, to keep your system well-hydrated and flushed, for one thing. Unless your surgeon disapproves, you might also try heat.. Good luck! Cammie > What can I do to help swelling then?
Guest guest
I think it's the amount of motion in the jaws and mouth. I believe both Fiddlesticks and I experienced interior swelling after overdoing the talking in the weeks and months immediately post-op. For me, at least, it was not exernally visible, but I could feel it. And I didn't have much swelling immediately post op. Cammie > Thanx, Carin. > > I'm thinking maybe it's the chewing itself since you're not chewing yet and you don't have the problem (I'm only 6 days ahead of you). The swelling happens with hot or cold or lukewarm food. It doesn't, however, happen with ice cream or pudding - I don't chew either of those. > > Oh well, I don't know. Thanx for your encouragement and I can't wait to see your pictures. > > Happy healing, > > Smooches >

Guest guest
Cammie, Okay, so you're telling me I need to slow down with the jaw movements as in chewing AND talking? I live alone during the week so I don't do much talking at all except on the phone and that's not very long (I hate talking on the phone). However, when I see another human being...I just can't help myself. I started back school tonight and I must have talked the ears off the guy who sits next to me...I couldn't help myself. And the other night at work, I must have talked almost all night long. Come to think of it, I did notice swelling after work and some after class tonight. Well, I guess I can zip it for a while longer if I have to...I do remember that I didn't have the problem with swelling inside when I was first post-op and not talking. Ho-hum...heavy sigh... Guest guest
Well, no, Smooches, I'm not telling you to do or not do anything. But I am telling you what my experience was, and what I think told me hers was, as well. Up to you to choose what to do. Have you tried warm salt water swishes to make it go down? Nobody told me that, but I'm thinking that might help. I will also tell you that while I was healing, my surgeon (who had told me " I know you like to talk. A LOT. " ) kept on my case not to talk. ;~) Good luck! Cammie > Cammie, > > Okay, so you're telling me I need to slow down with the jaw movements as in chewing AND talking? Guest guest
, I'm 11 weeks post-op and I still have swelling; so, yes, it's definitely normal to still have swelling at 3 weeks. My OS said it could take 6 months to a year to completely be rid of the swelling. Most don't take that long, but it's possible. Smooches Swelling Hello, im sure this is a frequent question so im sorry if youve seen it before! Guest guest
I am planning on having surgery on my lower jaw (although they may possibly do upper as well) for an underbite early this summer. The schedule I am hoping for allows me to have the operation right after my college graduation and I am scheduled to begin work 6 weeks after that...I was just curious how long it typically takes for the swelling to go down to a point where you feel like you look normal again after this operation? I'm sure it varies from case to case but I would like to hear about some of your experiences. As this all gets closer, I am getting much more nervous about the whole thing...even having 2nd thoughts. Thanks!
