Hi Cyndi!

As you know, every case is different, but my surgeon told me that the

splint does a few things: Guides your top and bottom jaw together in

the appropriate position when closed, for upper cases it basically

holds the jaw pieces together like a cast (of course, the metal bonds

do that too: ), and prevents you from biting together and putting

pressure on your jaws. I'm sure there are other easons for it too. I

had my splint for just about 4 weeks. After that you head to your

ortho to get a wire put in so that everything is held together and

whatever your situation your ortho takes it from there! I hope this

helps.

I had lower only. Splint " to help keep things from bouncing all

around creation. " Did not like it. Sposed to have it for six weeks,

went and was told to come back next week and get it out. WAIL!!! YOU

PROMISED!!! WAIL!!!

EEEE-Vil GRIN. " Yep. But I lie. Next week. "

After a bit more thought: Leave the damned thing in for a year if you

gotta. I want it to do whatever needs doing. Rather it out a year too

late than a week too early. Sigh.
