Guest guest
makes a lot of sense on this. The key here is what referrals do you need and who is going to pay for the surgery. In my case the surgery is being paid for (hopefully) by my medical coverage. The orthodontist and dentist are paid for out of dental insurance, at least partly. So it's up to you to coordinate the two separate coverages, and get the three groups talking. Guest guest
I'm 31 now, but back when I was 17, my orthodontist removed my braces and told me that some day I'd need surgery. So, after 14 years or school, work, etc, I finally took a job that had excellent coverage, and I went straight to an Oral Surgeon. My insurance doesn't require me to have referrals, and my Oral Surgeon was in my preferred provider list. So, I went to see him, told him what I wanted, and he referred me to an Orthodontist that works surgical cases with him. I got braces on (all out of pocket) and started the long trek (5 months) of getting pre-approved for Orthogonatic. I'm happy to say that I got approved, and we are looking at a June surgery date. That's how I did it. -Blake > If I know that i need the surgery, Should I go straight to an oral > surgeon, or dentist?
