Guest guest
Hmm, I had upper and lower in December, and was told not to chew for 6-8 weeks. But every surgery is pretty different. I do know, physiologically speaking, that any time a bone has been broken it takes at least 6 weeks to heal. And during that healing time you want to be careful not to move it around too much, because instead of bone healing bone, you get fibrous tissue from the movement and this causes a mal-union..in other words, things don't line up and the bone can't heal. Kind of like keeping something stable after you glue it. I am sure your surgeon is well aware of this and will give you a pretty clear protocol to follow. A good rule of thumb as well, is if it hurts, don't push it unless you're specifically told to by your os. I also was never wired shut, just elastics. I will say that after being banded and not eating for 6 weeks, I have now (at almost 8 weeks) a large amount of range and motion. I actually had Skittles yesterday. Good Luck to you!!! Guest guest
, I had lower and genio on 24 January and just have one rubber band each side of my mouth. I also can eat soft foods. I can open my mouth about 12mm. My orthodontist said soft food. So I think you are fine. He just said don't force your mouth to open any wider..easy does it. > I had upper and lower jaw surgery on 1/29 and things seem to be going > remarkably well. Guest guest
I had my upper and lower jaw done on November 5, 2003. I was on a liquid and pureed food diet for 3 months... just went back on solid foods Jan. 30. I was not wired shut, but banded. Each surgeon is different.... Mine has a general rule 10-12 weeks before starting to chew again. In my honest opinion, this is way to soon to be eating soft foods. Your bones need to heal before putting any pressure at all on them Carin
