Hi,

I had surgery 11 days ago (bilateral TM joint reconstruction) and I

use a water pik on the lowest setting and a baby toothbrush. I don't

have any stitches on the inside of my mouth so that's why I'm able

to use a waterpik so early.

After my previous surgeries, when I did have stitches on the inside,

I used a syringe to squirt water around my teeth.

It did years before I was diagnosed, too. My jaw first locked when I

was 9 or 10 but my orthodontist at the time told me I was faking it

so he couldn't work on my braces. My dentist finally diagnosed me

when I was 14 but I didn't do anything to correct my bite until I

got braces (second go around) in 1996.

Good luck,

i was diagnosed as needing surgery about 11 years ago. i am only 19..

so yes, i was only 8. i was in first grade.. and a year before that i

had a tumor in my ear that ate everything in its path.. and it

stopped the top from growing.. and pushed my bottom one out and over

TOTALLY to the left.. i had the surgery a little over a year ago. it

took so long for me to get my surgery since they had to be certain i

was done growing. whats weird is i used to have really bad headaches

when my jaw was not properly alligned. i guess maybe because of how

it connects with the neck(possibly???) after my surgery i was SOO not

supposed to use a water pik. instead i was to use peridex ( i think

thats what it is called.. something along those lines, i cant find my

perscription directions ( yes i kept them all from this

surgery!) ).it is a perscription mouthwash. it was very hard for me

to open my mouth to brush.. i did however use a baby toothbrush on my

front teeth.. because its about all i could see in my mouth. im not

sure if a hydrogen peroxide wash is okay, or not, but all i know is

my surgeon said to stay away from really strong brands of toothpaste

and mouthwash like listerine. they contain too much alcohol. good

luck through all your stages:)
