Do your docs offer hope that things will get better? I hope so... Time can be a wonderful healer. Meantime, is there any sort of therapy that might be helpful? They don't seem to think anything is wrong because " your bite looks great. " Yeah, well it looks wonderful but the joints are a completely mess and I can't feel anything. They don't say much about it getting better, so I guess we'll see. Yeah, it's pretty much ruined my trumpet playing too. Every time I think about that it just.. depresses me I guess. That used to be my one thing I was good at, now what do I have? I appreciate the concern. Hope you're doing well. They don't seem to think anything is wrong because " your bite looks great. " Yeah, well it looks wonderful but the joints are a completely mess and I can't feel anything. And in my book, that's much more important even than being a fine musician. (and I adore music. Mozart is the one thing that can get me out of any funk I ever experienced.) Have you decided you've just had it with docs in general? I wouldn't blame you, but the reason I ask is, I'm wondering whether someone who specializes in tmj troubles could help you, at least with the pain. I know that (minirascal) knows some of the leading joint people in the country, and others may have other suggestions. I think that's really lousy that your ortho and surgeon have " written you off. " I don't know that anybody knows how to get rid of numbness, but geez. Joint troubles can at least be treated, and I'd think it would be important to THEM to try to get you some help, since they're the ones who did the work. I can tell you that Cyn (do you remember our wonderful orthognathic goddess?) had some residual numbness after a couple of years and she still had not given up on regaining sensation. I think she was pursuing acupuncture when last I heard from her. I don't know how successful it was. (And if you try that, be sure the use fresh needles! I just heard a story from Toronto about a clinician who was reusing the needles after " disinfecting " them and was actually infecting his patients with some sort of microbacteria!) But I hope that the MRI leads to some help, and that you'll let us know what comes after. I know a couple who were married on Feb. 29. I think they're having their fifth anniversary this year....
