Re: Does it hurt after surgery?

I can't really say it hurt badly. There is a bit of a shock for the

first few days, as there is with any surgery. I had a Class 3 that

required 12 mm movement performed on Nov. 17/03. There are the risks

of general anesthetic, but not worse than tonsils or any other type

of procedure.

They gave me liquid codeine for two weeks, but I honestly did not

need it. All I can say is " go for it " , the results are so dramatic

that it is worth the liquid deit, the discomfort, etc...you'll be

glad you did!

I asked my Dr the same questions as you a week before surgery. I even

asked if you can die from the procedure? He told me that there wd be

some pain right after surgery but it should go away either within

hours or the next day. I am 8 days post-op and that was exactly the

case my pain lasted for a couple of hours after surgery. They gave me

some heavy pain killers which knocked me right out. I have had

virtually no pain since. I get a dulling pain at times but nothing

that is bothersome.

My Dr said he had never heard of anyone dying from the procedure. Of

course as with any surgery there is always the risk of anthesthia. It

is standard procedure to have a complete physical and ecg before the

surgery. If ur in the hands of a good Dr u have nothing to worry

about.

Is it worth it? Hell yah. I had a movement of 3mm and a lateral

movement of a couple of mms. I am loving the physical changes

already. I can't wait to get to wires out for many reasons and start

enjoy the functional changes. Four wks to go. There is some recovery

time but after a week I am feeling great already. Good Luck

Hi ,

I had surgery to correct my underbite 9 months ago. I am extremely

happy with the results. There are always risks to any surgery, but

it's always important to look at the benefits too. For many, jaw

surgery will improve the functionality of the bite and also the

aesthetics of the face. Recovery after surgery was painless for me.

I found having braces on was more of a nuisance than the recuperation

period. My surgeon did prescribe liquid codeine for pain, but I

didn't need it at all. I personally don't know of anyone who died

from jaw surgery.

Good luck,

on

I just had my surgery Feb 2nd and if I had to, I could return to

work tomorrow. I have had no pain at all and only some mild numbness

in my chin and very little swelling and bruising (I had my lower jaw

advanced and genioplasty). My pictures are on site II.

I am already thrilled with my results and would do it all again if I

had to and I have never heard of anyone dieing from this surgery.
