Guest guest
my docs are telling me now that i only need upper jaw surgery to correct my overbite/openbite. They said that my lower jaw will automatically move up,,,anyone here speak from experience? they told me think it over, but i'm just concerned because if they move my upper jaw up and back, i'm afraid i might look like i have an underbite because my lower jaw does stick out about the same as my upper jaw does now. *sigh* now i'm getting upset, i don't know what to do. has anybody here also have the one jaw surgery then decided to go back and do surgery on the other part of your jaw?? omg, i can't imagine doing that!! I am scheduled for lower jaw surgery on Jan 28, however before I went with this Dr. my previous Dr wanted to move just my upper jaw back to correct my maloclusive bite. I cdnt believe it. I went to this Dr because he took my insurance and my ortho said he was good. This Dr humg me up for three months making an evaluation and getting insurance approval when he came up with this brilliant plan. I knew it wd have been a hugh mistake When I look at my face it is obvious my lower jaw is receded. My upper jaw look like it is in a great position. Astheically I cd not imagine moving my upper being a smart move. I have been told by at least a half dozen oral surgeons in the past that the way to fix my jaw alingment wd be to move my lower slightly foward. I immediately went to another Dr who I knew was excellent but didnt take my insurance in full for a second opinion. He cd not believe what that other Dr had planned to do. He told me cosmetically I was right it wd look awful. He told the idea of this surgery is to not only get the best functional results but the best cosmetic results as well. Needless to say he is doing my surgery. He is taking my isurance and charging me 2,500 out of pocket. I obviously don't know your situation but u know ur face and have an idea what wd look right. Get other opinions from other Drs. who have good reputations before you proceed. Drs are human they dont always know what they are doing. I learned that you got to have confidence in the Dr. that is going the procedure. Good Luck keep me posted,

Guest guest
when I first thought I had to have my surgery, I only thought it would be lower.. but they showed how the upper contributes to much of the underbite as well. I really liked my surgeon and trusted him and his assistants. I was their most " extreme " case, and everything turned out well. if you really like your dr, which you should, and you feel like you can trust him, you probably can. good luck. > my docs are telling me now that i only need upper jaw surgery to > correct my overbite/openbite.
