Guest guest
Hi, Before my surgery 5 weeks ago and 6 screws, I had an MRI on my TMJ/jaw with a full set of braces on!! If they can work around that, I would think that little screws wouldn't cause a big problem. Unless, it depends on the material used in making the screws. > My 15 year old daughter has to have jaw surgery with the use of > screws. Guest guest
The plates and screws used in surgery are made from non-ferrous metals. So therefore, they would have no effect on the MRI equipment. So the answer is " no " ...it is not true. > My 15 year old daughter has to have jaw surgery with the use of > screws. Guest guest
Not true at all, unless she's getting something quite different than all the screws I know of -- and I have six in my lower jaw. Neither will she set of airport security devices, nor metal scanners, unless Messrs Bush, thorney and whoever come up with something a heckuva lot more sensitive than the present technology. I was in the room while a beloved one had an MRI, both before and after braces. There is a huge metal pin in the patient's shoulder... No problem-o. What may be a problem-o, though, is that you need to be certain that her growth is complete before they do this surgery. That's really, really important.
