Guest guest
It sounds like you're experiencing the " ice pic in the ear " sensation that lots with TMJ dysfunction feel. You should make sure your doctor is aware of this. In my case, I underwent an arthrocentisis seven weeks post-op. The procedure is basically for flushing out the joint and dosing some anti-inflammatory drugs right where they count. My was done as an in-office procedure. I was out under anesthesia, but nothing like what they use for the orthognathic surgery. I think the whole thing took less than an hour from the time I was out to the time I left the office. At any rate, that could be an option for you. Hang in there. > HI! > I'm 5-weeks post-op from upper/lower/genio. before I got my splint > out - the left side of my lower jaw popped when I opened my mouth > wide. Guest guest
- Did the arthrocentisis help? Is that a long-term solution to the problem or just a short-term fix? I've had the ice-pick feeling going on for a long time now, but it has been more intense since my lower jaw advancement surgery ten months ago. When I told the surgeon about it, he said something about how there are a lot of nerve endings in the back of the disk, but he didn't explain it beyond that. I had other concerns at the time, so I didn't pursue it. I'll be talking with him tomorrow, and I plan to ask him about it again. Thanks > > HI! > > I'm 5-weeks post-op from upper/lower/genio. before I got my splint > > out - the left side of my lower jaw popped when I opened my mouth > > wide. Guest guest
Yes, it helped very much. I'm not sure how permanent it is, but I would have had the arthrocentisis early last May and the positive effects have stuck around this long. I've got some issues with my left joint that pre-date my orthognathic surgery. My running count is now one arthroscopy and two arthrocentisis (the first one was about a year before orhtognathic surgery). To me, having the second arthrocentisis so soon after the orthognathic surgery really bummed me out, but it's made it possible for me to not have to set any timeline for the open joint surgery that both me and my OS expect I'll need as some day. Good luck to you. There is no reason you should have to live with the pain without having explored options that may be helpful. > > > HI! > > > I'm 5-weeks post-op from upper/lower/genio. before I got my > splint > > > out - the left side of my lower jaw popped when I opened my mouth > > > wide. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I'll ask my surgeon about my options when I see him tomorrow. I realized recently that I'm nearly resigned to having some kind of TMJ pain for the rest of my life. I don't want to be resigned to it, but it's hard to fight it off. I was sure that the surgery and braces were going to alleviate the pain, and they did for a while, but now it's back. I'll have to check out other options like the procedures you've had done. Thanks again! > > > > HI! > > > > I'm 5-weeks post-op from upper/lower/genio. before I got my > > splint > > > > out - the left side of my lower jaw popped when I opened my > mouth > > > > wide.
