Guest guest
Hi! Has anyone had a bony lump along their jaw incision or near their titanium screw sites after jaw surgery? I am only 24 and in great health, and yet, this lump aches and causes me to get breakouts on that site (while none are anywhere else). In fact, it has been infected before and the surgeons reopened the site and discovered some dead bone there, cut it out, ground down the lump a bit, and sewed me back up. Basically, I'm curious as to whether others have experienced this and if so, if it healed naturally, or what measures had to be taken. My surgeons have said that the site will smooth itself over on its own and that they completed that surgery to " help it along the way. " Later! Guest guest
I had mandibular advancement surgery last May, and I have the bony lump you're referring to, plus I had some serious indentations just behind where the screws were inserted. I don't think anyone noticed them except me, but I was concerned that things were going to be like that permanently. My surgeon said the indentations would fill in and the lump would smooth out...and he was right. It's taken about a year, but the indentations are mostly gone. During surgery they rotated my jaw a couple of millimeters, and I developed a lump on the side they rotated the jaw away from. I can feel one of the screw heads, which is a little creepy, but for the most part the lump has smoothed over. It's still a lump, but it's kind of blending in with the rest of my jaw now. The screw sites were a little achy for a while, and I also noticed that my skin was different in those areas. I didn't really have break outs, but I'd ocassionally get blemishes in those spots (which had never happened before) and my skin just didn't behave normally. That doesn't seem to be happenening now. It takes time for everything to fully heal and for your body to recover. Maybe your lumps will go away entirely, especially if they went in and removed some extra bone. Be patient!
