Lurkers are part of the grad list....they just don't post yet, so I

personally would want to welcome anyone on the list who could attend. I

also see it more as a social function than anything else, since people

present so much information on this board already.

I'm only here for the party!

I vote for Vegas too. How do I do that officially?

Well, I just checked the polls, and Vegas is far and away the first

choice. As for the month, June is in front, however, said

the ASBS convention is in June. , do you know the dates?

That should definitely be a blackout week. Also, for those attending

the ASBS convention, is it impossible for you also to shoot to Vegas

for another week(end) in June, if that's what the majority chooses?

And, if it is feasible for most of you, is it easier to try to

schedule our party for immediately before or after theirs or would a

week or 2 in between be preferred?

Also, we only have 60-70 votes for each poll question. Come on

are welcome, too! So, get out there and vote! LOL

Dear Grads,

Well, as a Vegasite (or local as we call it!) I of course cast an emphatic

vote for Vegas! I know we have a few on this list who live in Las Vegas,

or within 100 or so miles of me.

Some thoughts on bringing this jubilee here (and that's what I think of it

as....a WLS Jubilation!) Anyhow, unless you are used to the summer heat,

there are some times of the year that are better than others. October and

February are gorgeous here. Matter of fact, so far November has been pretty

nice too! So far I haven't had to turn the heat on.....and that's a bonus.

Ok, June, July and August while your typical vacation months are pretty hot.

Generally though the heat may not be an issue if you are inside all the

time! Right now is slow times for the hotels......things will pick up over

Thanksgiving and from Christmas to New Years...then slow again.

Now I'm thinking as I type so this may ramble somewhat...... Rooms are for

the most part cheap here. Places like motel 6 are usually around $30 a

night. The casino/hotels are more reasonable midweek than weekends. Most

on the weekends insist on booking for Friday and Saturdays. A single night

on the weekend is near impossible.

Although the pictures you see of Vegas are all the strip, rooms are more

reasonable downtown. I'm thinking of the Golden Nugget, Main Street

Station, The Las Vegas Club, Binions, The Four Queens. Public

transportation is easy. Downtown Vegas is a few blocks from the main bus

depot. Also there are trolley cars that run to the strip too. IMHO, unless

you are honeymooning....you mostly just need a room to store your stuff,

shower and once in a while sleep. I don't think it would be a problem to

put 4 people in one room either. Most rooms have 2 queen sized beds and

will also supply a roll-a-way bed too if you ask. So that's another way to

keep costs down.

Meals are cheap...there are always specials and coupon books. Many of the

casinos will include show tickets as part of a package or buy one get one

free at the very least. We have great shopping here....the Forum at

Caesars....Nordstrom's just opened at Fashion Show Mall, and we have Belz

Outlet mall too!

Places to go for more information would be www.lasvegas.com and of course

most casinos have websites too! Check Southwest airlines for deals too.

And for a variation on the Vegas thing may be Laughlin. It's hotter than

Vegas and humid too. But it's about a 2 hour commute from Vegas to Laughlin

(may be cheap for rooms) or Mesquite (about 90 miles north of town) Oh and

also....there are plenty of places if you have an RV too!

I'll do what I can to help coordinate this if the group decides on Vegas.

But if I do.....oh dear, oh my.....I lost my tail :o( I gotta be Eeyore!!!

Sue in fabulous Las Vegas!!

PS did I mention we also have the Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire, helicopter

trips over the strip, a volcano, a pirate ship, white tigers and lots of

boobie shows too!

The other thing to consider about June is that families with kids have weekend

sports/tournaments in June and early July. Some schools aren't out until June

10th-ish which would rule out travel for some until after that. Maybe we could

redo the time poll with just the months of June, July and August and see what

the group thinks: and the location with the top three choices as well. We could

add a question to see how long we want the get together to be. carolyn

************ I'd get up and check, but cat in my lap and you know the rules.

It was a TENTATIVE date of the middle week, about the 17th.

So, that leaves the front or the end of June, if you GOTTA have June. IT

WAS 113 DEGREES IN VEGAS IN JUNE ------- ARE YOU ALL MAD?

Washington State (or Oregon) is very nice in June, though. Trees,

mountains, gray skies.... I mean BLUE skies, stuff like that.

Well, I don't think we should rule out June completely just yet. After all,

it is the #1 choice so far. I checked the ASBS website, and the convention

is scheduled from June 17-22. That's the 3rd week in June. So, the next

question is, for those who have to wait until their kids are out of school,

when is the last day of school? Any of them ending in June? Also, as Sue

said, the summer heat in the desert can get pretty intense. July may not be

too bad, but August is probably a little rough. But, first things first.

OK, maybe what we can do is mention all these concerns and the holiday dates

when we have a final vote on dates after 11/30. I still don't know when

school's out, but not just for the kids, I'm guessing we have a few teachers

on here, too.

Also, if we do get pushed into the hotter months, don't forget, the weather's

been so wacky around the country (and world), we might just end up having a

snow storm in Vegas this summer! LOL Sorry, Sue (I can see her freaking

out), just trying to find the silver lining. :))

Weekends might also be better for those who work as well...maybe only

needing to take one day off rather than 3 or 4. That's saying if I ever get

a job again!!! But I am hoping..otherwise, I will be thinking of ya'll from

my home in economically depressed Silicon Valley Ca.

Hi again!

Thank you to everyone who has voted! Right now, Vegas is pretty much

sewn up as the location, and June has 2 more votes than April. So,

the next question is if you have voted for location, but not the

month, please do so. We have 16 votes more for location than date,

but that may just mean people don't really care when it is.

Also, just curious...for those with kids, anyone have school not

ending until June? And, if another month is chosen (say April), how

much of a hardship would it be for those with kids? I know that

midweek reservations are cheaper than weekends, but weekends would

certainly be better for those with kids, I would think. I don't have

kids, so you tell me, K?

these polls end on nov. 30th and we can do a more specific poll then with

regards to time of year if people want to do that. it may come down to when

is the cheapest time to visit vegas ........
