Guest guest
I don't understand it, either, Eileen, but I know it to be true. Some years ago, a friend broke a shoulder. The injury threw his whole skeletal system out of whack and it took extensive PT and massage (the ouch! kind, not the Ahhhh... kind) to get things back in synch. The jaw is right in there with the balance system and spine, too. It's just astounding how " the hip bone's connected to the leg bone... " and so on all throughout the body. And I think it's sort of like pick up stix... one stick in the wrong place can unbalance the whole bunch. cammie > > Hi Everyone, > > > > It's currently 3:30 am and I cannot sleep, so I thought I would post > > and see if anyone had the problem I'm having. Guest guest
And to show it can work the other way, I haven't had any back pain since I separated my collar bone from my shoulder a couple of years ago playing football on the beach. My bride swears the impact incurred when I whacked my shoulder re-aligned something in my back, even though I'd previously been through tons of PT, meds, exercise, x- rays, etc. Now, personally I wouldn't recommend diving shoulder first into the hardpacked sand in order to try and reproduce this injury as it was SIGNIFICANTLY more painful than my back troubles. Guest guest
Wow. This is interesting. I read 's post, and I never had any idea the whole muscular-skeletal system would be interrelated. Guest guest
Hi Andy, I figured it might be confusing for you. If I had to pick one person, in retrospect, to help me, it would have been my cranial-sacral massage therapist. The reason is that she is a true whole-body therapist. Everyone else worked on on my symptoms or a selective part of the body. That's not to say you shouldn't explore as many possibilities as you can, yes, do that, to make sure there isn't something more serious going on. But as I found out, all of those other practitioners either said " your xrays are perfect, no problem " or " I don't know what's wrong " , or " keep doing what you are doing " . Getting back to the meditation, that sounds far-fetched, I know, but it's not really. It, like yoga, is becoming very mainstream. The course that I took is actually a special course developed by someone who is the head of the pain & stress clinic at U of Massachussets, Jon Kabat-Zinn. It is an eight week program, and it's very helpful for people with pain. It doesn't get rid of the pain, but it changes your whole approach to dealing with it. If you want to look into something like this, try a search on MBSR or " Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction " in your area. This course was facilitated by a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, so it was covered by our provincial health insurance plan in part, I paid the balance of $299. Well worth it. Good luck, > I finally broke down and went to my chiropractor yesterday. No matter > what I felt, I couldn't NOT do anything. He definitely helped.
