Hi!

I'll be getting implants and fixed bridges in a few months.

I've had a friend who's gotten some and all went well for him.

There are lots of web sites on dental implants since they are

becoming more and more popular - you could check them out for some

idea of what to expect.

Best of luck,

Johanne

I have not had them. Mercifully, I have not needed them -- at least

yet. I have a small mouth and lots of teeth -- too many teeth for the

size of my mouth, which has been one of my problems, although things

match up nicely now, thanks to my ortho and surgeon.

I am a newspaper reporter, more or less, and some years ago talked

extensively in preparation for a story with a local dentist who was

one of the pioneers here in the procedures, I think. They sure

sounded like the greatest thing since sliced bread, for folks who had

lost teeth. As best I remember what he told me about how he did it,

and remember, this was long ago now, he opened the skin over the

bone, implanted a support, let things heal a bit, then put

the " teeth " on the posts that came up from the support.

I have seen a plaque about implants on my surgeon's wall. And I trust

him enough to know that if he's doing 'em, it's an ok procedure in

the hands of an expert. I hope that the techniques and procedures are

even better than they were when I spoke with that dentist. He was

talking mostly about full mouth procedures, and I'd think it would be

a lot easier if you " only " need one or two teeth done. I do think it

is amazingly expensive, and I wonder whether insurance covers it.

(They love to rule that things are " dental " rather than " medical, "

although from what I was told, with dentures the bone is likely to

recede and cause pain. Besides, how much nicer to have something in

there that becomes an integral part of the body. Or at least, so I'd

think!
