Inpatient vs Outpatient Question

Hi Group. I'm two weeks postop and beginning to feel better. I'd like

your input on something. My surgery (maxillary and mandibular

osteotomies) was performed as an outpatient surgery and they

literally kicked me out of the recovery room at 5 p.m. I wanted to

stay overnight, but they said I would be fine. The next 24 hours were

hellish for me.

I'm curious as to how long people have stayed in the hospital? Did

you think it was appropriate and beneficial? I realize every case is

individual, but I'd like to get some general ideas. Did anyone else

have an outpatient experience and how did it go?

Thanks for your input. I never would have made it through these past

two weeks without the support from this group. THANK YOU.

I, too, had upper and lower and my OS says she likes to keep her patients

overnight just in case, and a second night if necessary.

My husband had a game on Saturday morning (I had surgery on the Thursday

before) so a week before my surgery, I requested to stay two nights

instead...that way he could go to his game and not have to worry about me.

(We'd discussed this a few weeks before my surgery because he wanted to cancel

his game, but I insisted he didn't.) So I stayed two nights in the hospital.

The first night was very appropriate and beneficial...the second night was

just a bonus. :-) I would not recommend doing this as an outpatient surgery,

but I'm glad you made it through well.

I only had upper and was planned to stay one night but I was soooo

sick that night, all night long, so they had me stay an extra night.
