My method is to use my online resources as an information-gathering source. I

then take any concerns or questions that arise from what I've learned online

to my doctor. I agree that the Internet shouldn't be used in place of a

doctor but I do think it's a useful adjunct tool.

Well,

I skipped my Relafen last night and when I took it this morning the gas

started again within a 1/2 hour. thank you Rick. I went to the doc and

told her all the symptoms from the past week and now start Celebrex

tonight. I did manage to take the Relafen for a little over a year.

--Great Idea--I've been telling parents to this this exact thing for

years--but never put it in a book. Life is much easier if we can focus on

the positive. Viktor l wrote about his experiences in the concentration

camps and what made someone survive against all odds--it was that person's

ability to reframe what was happening--to look on the brighter side--odd to

think about that under such duress. If you saw the movie, " Life is

Beautiful " it was another parent's exact ability to do that for his son which

helped his family to ultimately survive. A study was done at the University

of California Irvine in which graduate students sat with an AD/HD child for

about an hour one time a week (I am not too sure as to the exact manner in

which the study was conducted, but this is the gist). The students were

instructed to say something positive to that child in frequent

intervals--approximately every 15 minutes, that student either gave words of

encouragement, noticed something positive about that child, honored that

child. The children's self esteem obviously improved and became noticeable

both at home and in the classroom. Needless to say, those children received

positive attention--quite different from the norm that they were used to. If

we can begin looking for the positive in our lives, we can then be so much

happier. It is a wonderful way of caring for our parent soul as well as that

of our offspring. Try to make a date with yourself as well--if you do not

take good care of yourself---who will? Apportion time in your day for

you--even if it is 10 minutes. Then relax and enjoy!! Take care--hope to

meet all of you at the Conference.

Sandy,

Speaking for myself, I was able to feel more awake after the third week.

Before starting the combo-therapy I averaged 5 hours sleep a day. I was

jaundiced, tired, achey, ferverish, but I didn't sleep much. The first 2 or

3 weeks on the treatments I slept 12 hours a day, after 2 1/2 months I now

sleep 8 hours a day, divided between 6 hours at night and a two hour nap in

the afternoon. I admit that I would be hardpressed to get a 'regular' job

while needing the afternoon nap as I do, and am fortunate that I have a

home-based business. The best advice I can give your brother is to tell him

to try to stick it out for 12 weeks. A couple of reasons for the 12 week

thinking: 12 weeks of combo therapy can often turn back the liver damage a

person has experienced up to that period; it's easier to think in terms of

only 3 months rather than a year; it's my understanding that many people find

that their side effects taper off after 3 months.

Has anyone noticed a difference in their color after starting combo therapy?

My color ran from pale to jaundiced, but now looks the healthiest it has in

many years. I think the last time I had this much color in my cheeks I was a

kid! I wonder if it's a pleasant side-effect of the meds (no more blush) or

whether this is how I should have looked the last 20 years...I've had Hep C

and elevated liver readings so long that it's hard for me to know what was

normal.

,

I noticed the red cheeks when I started INF last year. When I had my

labs at 3 months I noticed my ANA was elevated,

(possible auto immune problems.) At first I thought it could be lupus.

One symptom of Lupus is a red flushed face, sometimes butterfly

shaped. Then I started having extreme sun sensitivity, I had to stay

inside during the day. :-( More tests were done and I have been

diagnosed with porphyria cutanea tarda. It is common with people with

hep c. I have to avoid the sun and when out during the day cover myself

with sunproof materials.

I hope that your flush is because you are feeling better and enjoying

the change of seasons. Just to be safe I would mention

your flush to your doctor.

hugs,

Judy M

Hi ,

Thank you for responding to my cry for help. Your information was

encouraging. Are you on the treatments for a year? Terry will only be for 6

months. How is that decided? Thanks again, Sandy

hi sandy,

My husband Con has hepC also. but he is currently not on any drug therapy...

....He has a blood test every month, to check the liver function, but that is

it. He is taking so many other drugs for his transplant and heart,he was

told he could not have interferon, so maybe that is why he has never been

given any drugs...

Hi ine,

What type of transplant does your husband have? That is certainly

understandable that he could not tolerate more medicine. My brother Terry

says he feels like a toxic waste dump. Thanks for writing. Sandy

Can someone explain ebay to me? I know it's an auction, but how does it

work. Reply privately, and thanks in advance.

I've been away from the list for MONTHS! Was doing 5 craft shows and filling

Christmas bake orders. (I'm vary happy with the results) I have a few

questions: 1. Must ingredients for lotions, etc. be ON the bottle itself, or

may a tag tied around the cap be used? 2. Is witch hazel ok to use for men's

aftershaves and for women's body splashes? (I'm using FO's and EO's) 3. I

know vodka is the primary choice for many people as the base for these two

items, but what about the alcohol smell? (Since I can't drink alcohol I'm

pretty ignorant about this) 4. If using vodka is the better choice, is 80

proof the one to use? 5. Has anyone ever used a product called " Mr. Ben " as

the solvent for body splash and men's aftershaves? I've checked out the

library, and witch hazel is used in some recipes, but what about " staying

" power? I mean, how long will the scent linger on one's body? Thank you

all so much, this list has been wonderful. I'm glad was able to switch

me over. Thanks, !

Witch hazel is okay to use, from what I understand. And vodka is often used

because it doesn't have an odor. If you use vodka, get 100 proof. If you

can get Everclear, that's even better.

OMG.....Leah! What are you going to do now? Will you look for a new school

then? Glad you got it on tape....hehehe....where did you hide the recorder??

Maybe after a " cooling off " period with Ashton being at home for the

remainder of the school year, you will be able to take a deep breath and go

for it again....but NOT at THAT damn school.....can't believe that.

As for everyone else having trouble at school with these b.s. " emergencies " ,

I have to agree with Sara.....they wouldn't call for every piss and fart for

a " normal " child.....so everyone, NOW HEAR THIS! Make sure your answering

machines are working.....put a voice mail on your cell phones....you can

always listen to the messages right after just in case you're worried it's a

REAL emergency......refuse calls at work, let your coworkers take

messages.....and THEN see what happens!

I'm so sick of this crap.....maybe if we weren't so " accessible " , the damn

school personnel would leave us the hell alone!

My 2 cents and more.......

Unfortunately, we both will be moving soon. She wants to go back to Texas and I

am moving closer to Philly. Wonder if an Amishman would be willing to be Elie's

emergency person?? They don't have phones in their homes. Oh, the evil

thoughts that go through my mind.......

Seriously though, I do believe that even paranoid people can be picked on. I

think our kids are targeted - and they make good targets because they stand out

in a crowd. How many kids with DS/ASD have tried to blow up a school, shoot

people, rob a bank, rape a passerby, etc.....Yet it is our kids over whoom

schools create " violence plans " , complain about extra ed funds, isolate,

denigrate, and devalue.

I would take any of our kids against the genius minds that plan school

massacres!

I just bought Sharon Mann's " The Works: Cardio " DVD and have been doing a

workout from it everyday for the last three days. Today I'll do the final

workout. I love this DVD. The workouts are at an intermediate level, but there

are two people on the right side modifying it for advanced and I try to follow

them whenever I can. The workouts are only twenty-five minutes in length so if

you want a longer workout you can do two. I haven't been able to hold that

intensity for a few weeks now (I'm exhauted and stressed out) so I did it alone

or paired it with an easier video. The workouts are broken up into segments and

you can mix and match the segemtns along with a cool down and warm up. The four

main workouts are: Hi Lo, Boot Camp, Step and Kickboxing. The choreography is

simple which I like since alot of times I'm too focused on something else in my

life to pay attention to every little nuance.
