Neurontin

Neurontin is an anti-seizure medicine that has been found to be real useful

when used in conjunction with pain meds but be sure your doc watches your

liver enzymes very closely. I was on it for a month but had to stop because

of the sedation...it seems that since I'm on oxycontin 20 mg 2-3 Xper day I

am real sensitive to sedating meds. Almost everyone I know gains weight on

it which in your case may be well...the dose ranges from 100 mg 3xdaily to

300mg 3xday...in much rarer cases it can affect your white and red blood

cells and platlets so a CBC every few months is not a bad idea

Yes, and I still have controlled diabetes. My last HbA1c was 6.1 and the

one

before that was 5.6 My Neuropathy has gotten worse as I have lost 147lb

via Open RNY WLS. My diabetes is affected by my protein drinks which

I find hard to believe (Isopure). I have tried many different things for

the neuropathy.

I had went up to about 1200g (if I remember right) on neurontin without any

help from it. This was before WLS, and the most side affects I had was

an unset stomach. I would not want to take it now with my pouch.

There are three books out by A. Senneff dealing with peripheral

neuropathy.

1- Numb Toes and Aching Soles - Coping with Peripheral Neuropathy

2- Numb Toes and Other Woes - More on Peripheral Neuropathy

3 -Nutrients for Neuropathy - Thoroughly covers treatment options

and supplementation.

I have all three and I am on other drugs that require medical Rx that are

to

help, but I don't think they help much. I have tried many of the home

supplementations like pineapples drinks and pineapple pills, but I have

not been able to find anything to really help the pain.

My doctors recommend the above books and said the diabetes control is

the only thing I can really do.

We have to look at the other side and think of what it would be like if

we DID NOT have WLS. My loving wife will put lotion at night on my feet

when we watch TV and it oh it feels so good. She is my Angel.

Neurontin is sometimes prescribed for depression. I took it pre op and

did not like it. If an when you stop taking it, expect withdrawal

symptoms for about a week.

Hi Carol:

My husband was on Neurontin for about a year when he hurt his neck at

work. His ortho doctor put him on it for the pain, but it also was used

for a tremor that he has, which he inherited from his father. The

Neurontin worked well for about the first 6-8 months and then it

stopped, but by that time hubby was scheduled for neck surgery and

didn't need it anymore. It did help him, though, when he needed it. By

the way, my hubby is also diabetic and it didn't affect that at all.

a huWhile I was away the last three weeks, doing lots of driving, I had to

call my

doctor and he prescribed Neurontin. I was a little surprised since I did not

know this was used for pain. I also was a little nervous about taking Permax

and Neurontin together but I was too far away to call the doctor. It did

nothing for the pain in my legs but I guess it helped the twitching. However,

I was reading the pamphlet that goes along with the medicine and it said one

of the side effects was weight gain. Has anyone ever had a problem with gaining

weight. I also have the itching but my husband bought a humiderfier for our

bedroom and that seems to help. I also bought some cream which diabetics use

so I am going to try that. I will let everyone know if that helps.

The good news is that I was able to drive 12 hours a day without going nuts.

However, when I had to sit for two hours listening to a lecture one evening,

I was ready to climb the wall.
