I feel for you regarding the milk issue. Charlie can't have rice or

soy milk, thank God he likes juice.

Let me know if you are taking Sam back for more NAET treaments. I'm

planning on making an appointment for Charlie tomorrow.

Take care,

, I hope you get the approval you're looking for. But you

know, when they do send that approval letter, it's only going to be

good for 90 days, which won't get you to February. I guess after

that you have to go through the approval process again, but I'm not

sure. Just something to be aware of and ask about. Good luck!

Oh wow Robin Great to hear from you. Congrats on getting to 29w and ((((HUGS))))

for the GD. I have to watch for that having PCOS but never got far enough

in my first pg to worry about it (delivered at 28w). Let us know how your

appt goes today and I hope you don't need the insulin shots.

Hope to hear a lot more from you from now on.

Hi all,

just checking in to give a quick update.

I am 29 weeks pg now and can't wait for 36 weeks to get here. I've

just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and have to eat a

special diet (no cookies, cakes, candies, etc.) and I have to check

my blood sugar level 4 times a day and record everything I eat.

I go back on Tuesday and they will decide if I need insulin shots.

They say that 40-50% of women diagnosed with this condition do need

insulin and so far I've failed more of my blood sugar readings than

passed so I think I'll end up on insulin.

Other than that things are going well. I'm just feeling my age this

time around. I'll be 40 next month.

We still haven't decided on a name. Sometimes I wonder if we ever

will. We've always had a name picked way before now. No name

sounds right to us. We might just have to bring a list of 10 names

to the hospital and see what he looks like.

Welcome to all the new ladies - I hope you find the help you need on

this board.

I apologize for not posting more often than I do. During my last

pregnancy I posted at the Babycenter Bulletin Boards under "Pregnancy

after a loss" and I got so wrapped up in posting that I worried about

every little thing that happened to others. My family did not really

think it was healthy for me but at the time I think it really

helped. This time around though I just don't have the interest to

get so involved. I still read all the posts but just don't respond

even when I feel I have something to add. I hope you understand.

I'm only working 1/2 days now but it seems I spend the other half of

the day at a doctor appt. It's refreshing to know that I've reached

the point at 29 weeks where 90+ percent of babies survive if born now.

With the gestational diabetes they will start doing bio physical

tests on the baby weekly to make sure that he is doing okay. I

didn't really know much about gestational diabetes before but the

interesting thing I learned about why it's so important to keep in in

check when you are pregnant is because my body is not producing

enough insulin to digest the sugars in my diet. They get passed to

the baby and it makes his pancreas work hard and he produces more

insulin than he would normally need. Upon delivery he can be born

with low blood sugar because he is producing way too much insulin and

this can put him in a coma. It also causes jaundice problems because

the pancreas is out of wack already.

Before I thought it just made the baby bigger and fatter and thought

that in my case a big baby wouldn't be a problem becuase I was having

a c-section anyway. But there is a lot more to gestational diabetes

than most of us know.

I hope everyone else is doing well. I'll check back later.

Love,

Robin

Hi everyone,First I want to welcome all the newcombers this group really seems to be growing lately.Next I wanted to let you all know that I've been having Bio Physical and NST tests due to the gestational diabetes/insulin that I have to take. I have these tests twice a week and so far so good. Baby Boy has received 10 out of 10 points at each visit. Yesterday, we tenatively scheduled the c-section for Friday, November 7th provided the lungs are mature the day before after doing the amnio. I was cautioned that gestational diabetes tends to slow the maturation of the lung process so it is not a guarantee that he will be ready on the 6th or 7th. If not, they will probably do another amnio a week later. Please pray for us that he is ready to be born on the 7th. I've been really miserable lately. I've been having a lot of contrations just from walking around a little bit so that keeps me down. I also have a lot of pain in my cervix but it appears to just be pressure as my cervical lenght is around 3 centimeters. I have sciatic nerve pain at night while trying to sleep on the side that I lay on so I constanly have to turn over to get rid of the pain. I can only lay on each side for about an hour. I also have a problem with my sinuses -- it coincides with the sciatic nerve pain so fortunately when I turn over my sinus clear up on the same side as the sciatic nerve pain. On top of all of this the diabetes is really getting to me. I have to check my blood sugar 4 times a day by pricking my fingers and usuing a little machine. I also have to check my urine for ketones in the morning and I have to give myself insulin shots i the stomach before I go to bed.I will be 40 in two weeks and I'm sure that my age is adding to all of this.Lastly, I wanted to add that I talked to my peri yesterday to see if he would be removing the cerclage and he said "yes" definately. I told him about the responses I had seen on this board and that it appeared that most doctors were leaving the cerclages in even when woman were done having babies. He said that the cerclage is not hard to remove especially after having it for just one pregnancy. He said the the scar tissue, etc. is not that bad after 5-6 months so he will be removing it. I will also have a tubal ligation at that time.I also wanted to add a comment regarding the "invasiveness" of the ab cerclage. I would definately liken the surgery to more like a c-section than a hysterectomy. Also, my peri told me before the surgery that during the surgery they really have to pack your bowels up in your chest during the surgery and that the surgery is much more complicated that a c-section because they have to dig small tunnels in the cervix/uterus to put in the cerclage and that these areas filled with blood vessels, etc. and it would be very easy to cause a hemmorage and because of that it could jeopardize the baby and the woman's life or it could cause the loss of the baby and the uterus. I had a terrible problem getting my bowels back to normal after the surgery. It took a good week before I was able to have a bowel movement because when your bowels are handled during surgery like that they go into shock. I think that that is a probably why it is referred to as invasive. I know it took me a lot longer to heal from this surgery than from my previous c-section 3 years ago.I hope that helps. update

Hi,

Just wanted to give everyone any update. On Tuesday, I got my wires

and hooks put in. So my mouth has been a bit sore all week.

Yesterday, I had my pre-op appointment. It went well. The Surgeon

also took measurements, moulds, and bite prints as well. I had a

bunch of Doctor's staring at my mouth/bite/jaw for most of the day.

I was really sore after it.

It looks like everything is pretty much set and ready for Dec 18.

There's no turning back now.

Hope everyone that had surgery this week is doing well. Hang in

there!

GiJo

You definitely need a new ortho and surgeon, Andy, I'd say. That's

just awful.

That a doc would dismiss pain appalls me.

And how sweet that he thinks he did a good job. Doesn't sound to me

as though he did. I'd be inclined to write a letter to the

governing/licensing board about this character (and about your

surgeon, if he has the same attitude).

What did your " big bad dad " say about all this?

And how dare the ortho say that an MRI wouldn't tell him anything

more? You have pain, you want help, and he says no??? Not why, but

just no? Ummm, I'm glad this fellow wasn't treating me. And how the

hell would it defeat the purpose, unless the " purpose " is to cover up

whatever mistakes these two made???

I do find that my mouth is still settling -- and I had lower surgery

in June 2002 -- for whatever that's worth. But I was told to wear the

retainer 14 hours daily, and do. And I'd go slowly about this one,

but equillibration (grinding down the surfaces of the teeth) can make

major changes in the bite, too. But find someone you trust more than

these two to do it, before you ask.

I don't know whether my ortho has a drug license, either. I do know

that he didn't prescribe anything for me -- he handed me the

prescription fluoride gel, but said I wouldn't need more for pain

than otc stuff. And I didn't, really. I was pretty uncomfortable, but

not unbearably so. My surgeon, of course, could and did prescribe

stuff.

I think indeed you do need some different docs. You wanna come on

down to Lower Alabama? I can send you to a couple I'll vouch for

without reservation.

Best,

Cammie
