Guest guest
Are you sure he said to stop the calcium? I just recently had plastic surgery and my surgeon said to stop the Vit E, but not the calcium. And he said the E in the multivitamin was ok, just no extra E. Chrissie Vitamins Can anyone give the name of a multi vitamin that does not have Calcium of Vitamin E in it. I am having some plastic surgery done (upper & lower eyelids) and the surgeon wants me to discontinue Vit E and Calcium three weeks before the procedure. Since I do not want to stop taking vitamins all together, I am looking for an alternative. Robina
Guest guest
Yvonne, Sure, but why not just swallow the capsule? The gel cap will dissolve with the liquid it was swallowed with and the powder will move on. I did open my caps in the very beginning until I was a couple weeks post-op. Just a little nervous about swallowing them even though my surgeon gave me the go-ahead. Now, I take probably close to 40 or so vitamin and mineral supplements per day. A combination of capsules and tablets without difficulty. Rev. Pam Re: vitamins To Anyone, Speaking of vitimans, can we use vitimans that come in capsule form, and just open the capsules, and pour the contents into/onto drink/food, and take them that way? Any advise will be appreciated. Yvonne

Guest guest
just wanted to mention to all the folks on the protein list that there is a Vitamin and mineral list to meet your needs and answer your questions. its actually been a rather quiet list lately. sue go to yahoo and type ossg-vitamins-minerals in the search. Guest guest
Sue, I have to tell you, I hunted for and joined that vitiman/mineral list, to lurk (as I mostly do on here), to see if my questions might come up. I haven't seen one, no, not one post from that group, since I've joined. And since someone else brought up the subject of vitimans here, I thought that would be my 'opportunity' to ask my question. Sorry it's not exactly on the subject of 'protein', but I find everyone on here so helpful, and patient, especially with us (me in particular) newbies, in guiding us along the right path, to maintain our health. That's what it's all about anyways, isn't it? Thanks for the help and advice. Yvonne

Guest guest
Hi. I thought I've read on here before that we DON'T absorb gel caps &/or softgels. Is this correct? And why don't we absorb them? Also I'm trying to get all my vitamins in order by following the " Vitamin Regimen " recommended on here in the " Files " section. Is this a good daily regimen to go by for someone who had a Distal RNY? Thanks... in FL Distal Open RNY: 10/09/02 > Yvonne, > > Sure, but why not just swallow the capsule? Guest guest
since we are on the subject of vitamins, i thought i'd share a source i like when i don't feel like driving to gnc, vitamin world, etc. etc. hunting down a dry vitamin or whatever. its Swanson Vitamins and i love their catalog, their website and their service. www.swansonvitamins.com you really need to know the 'type' of vitamins you need before branching out into the unknown - example: citrate when buying calcium, ferrous fumarate when buying iron, chelated vitamins, etc. This is why Vitalady is so useful and helpful to 'us' because she's already gotten this info perfected so i highly recommend her to you as a first source. i take a lot of other 'stuff' that i get from swanson though like CLA, selenium, etc. sue

Guest guest
Gel caps, yes. They're just gelatin. It's the oil in the soft gels that is the problem. We don't absorb fats & oils reliably, so can't be sure we get a darned thing out of 'em. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. No taste at all. The A & D is so tiny that it would be more of a hassle than it is worth, though. I take a stress B vitamin that I would NOT empty into anything although it it as big as the calcium. The B vitamins are the ones that smell like vitamins. Yuck! So I swallow it down. I guess I could open my vitamin E, but never do. I opened my iron capsule for the first month after surgery. I suggest that you don't go there. Nasty! My multi and vitamin C are caplets, so I just gulp them down, but did crush them for the first month. Actually, the pills go down so easily now that I think the only reason I do the calcium in my protein is because it helps me remember them. I just put them in my dry bottle with the protein powder and then I get them together. Sheri In sunny Florida

Maybe you need to check your setting for the group. It sounds like you are set to no mail. If so, you can change the settings to get the individual emails, get digests, or you can stay no mail and read it online at the yahoo site, like I do all my groups.
