If you're pre-op, you can use them for the protein loading you want to do before surgery, but after surgery find something else. You can go to www.vitalady.com and see what works for US (those with the high carb counts are usually for body builder types), and you can get samples there to try the different ones. What I always recommend to someone who hasn't tried a lot of shakes, is to pick your favorite flavor (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry) and then buy as many samples as you can afford of that flavor by different manufacturers. Try them all, take notes and see which ones you like, which ones you hate, and order the ones you like in large quantities. ~~ Lyn G
Guest guest
>>> advocare products? :::snip ::: They have 25g of protein but also 25g of carbs <<<< Way over the top on carbs for use post op but you could use them pre-op to load up your protein for better / faster / healing after surgery. This would not be an option post op -- your post-op shake should have between 3-8 grams of carbs at the most and hopefully up to around 30/35 grams of protein per shake. If it has any sugar in it at all that number should be around 3 grams max but best if it doesn't have any sugar at all. 25 grams of carbs post op will 1.) cause dumping seriously (for me) and 2.) help you to gain weight (not what we are wanting post op!) Guest guest
The carbs sound pretty high to me, I've never heard of this brand, but I'd guess that with that many carbs there's probably too much sugar in them as well. Since you're pre-op, maybe you could use them before surgery to get your protein levels up. After surgery, you'll want to get the right kind of protein though. My favorite is ProScore 100 chocolate. It get all my supplements from Vitalady at www.vitalady.com. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.com® http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! ® protein drinks Hi, I'm a newbie still pre-op checking out protein drinks, has anyone ever used advocare products? I have some shakes left from them and not sure if they have the right ingredients. They have 25g of protein but also 25g of carbs and 90g of sodium the last two sound high, I would like your opinion please! I have 2 whole boxes of these, so would love to use them up, but not at the risk of hurting my weight loss. Thanks for your help! Guest guest
No, I am responding to what Tina said, that Beth, the Richmond nutritionist, didn't want her patients to drink protein shakes because they were liquid and no protein was absorbed because of that fact. It makes a kind of sense, since we are told not to drink juice but to eat fruit instead because the juice just cruises right on through our systems. Think I'll write to the ossg protein board about it. LaWanda who always seems to want lots of answers.
