Guest guest
I made them like the second recipe you gave. Well, you SAID fudge- so the first time I tried them I was a little disappointed BUT then I tried them the next day and they are really GOOD! The thing I really liked about them is that they were an easy way to get my protein in. I usually get in two shakes but I want to get three in so I grabbed two 1/2 bars at different times during the day and Walla! 2 shakes and 1 food bar ( that I absorb) SWEET! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!!! Sheri I need your feedback!!! OK I am dying to know how you all liked the homemade protein bars recipe that I posted here and emailed to over 300 of you fine folks! :-) I am of the opinion that they are the most heavenly, totally divine thing that I have ever eaten that contains protein! What did you all think? ~Kricket 11-13-02 298/174/145-160 (where ever it lands!)
Guest guest
Hmmmm - Mulloy - the protein that comes in our drinks is really only at it's top form for about 30 minutes after making it. It loses potency, even if frozen, so don't count on the protein powder in your bars for your usable protein. These bars are an acceptable form of candy, nice for a treat, but not a substitute for protein drinks. Pam in Niceville I need your feedback!!! Guest guest
> OK I am dying to know how you all liked the homemade protein bars > recipe I really love the texture, but need to try a different protein. I tried PWS, but it has a bitter aftertaste I just can't get past. I loved it when I used to use milk, but now it just doesn't work for me. Did anyone else make them with PS100? I'm also going to try adding some ground flaxseed. It will help me to add the health benefits along with some fiber and texture. Thanks so much, Kricket. If you're a new customer and you agree to get their e-mail ad that comes about once a week, then they give you $5.00 off your first order. That makes the book $7.59-- what a bargain!! Guest guest
I noticed one there that really caught my eye. I think it is called " The low carb comfort foods cookbook " ...I'm gonna add that one to my collection soon. I find it entirely weird now how much I LOVE to cook. LOL I wasn't like that pre op! I think for me it is because cooking sort of " allows " me to continue my fascination with food, while I don't indulge in the goodies I have been making. I kinda though that my husband might be gaining weight (he's average weight) with all my cooking, but I must be finally getting him to eat more nutritiously (if that's a word) cause he's lost 7 lbs!!! And the man STUFFS himself! He's 6'4 " and 213...like I said he is very average size wise. ~Kricket 298/174/145 > I can't wait till I get mine! I ended up ordering three cookbooks! Guest guest
I totally understand the cooking part. As a new post-op, that was one of my concerns before the surgery- that I would lose that desire to cook(I've always loved it). But it really hasn't been that way- its just changed. My husband recently found out he has diabetes- so he too needs the low carb. The whole family benefits!! Sheri Re: Re: I need your feedback!!! > > Hey all! Guest guest
I mixed up sort of a " mini batch " of these to test them out and thought they were fantastic! But, given all of the butter and cream cheese I was afraid that they'd slow down or stop my ever-slowing weight loss. Having said that, I'm going to reconsider now after seeing your great stats! Do you have one every day? Do you know how many calories are in them? I'd love to be able to indulge in one of these when the mood strikes. Thanks, Patty(IL) > OK I am dying to know how you all liked the homemade protein bars > recipe that I posted here and emailed to over 300 of you fine > folks! :-) I am of the opinion that they are the most heavenly, > totally divine thing that I have ever eaten that contains protein! > What did you all think? > > ~Kricket 11-13-02 > 298/174/145-160 (where ever it lands!) Guest guest
Hello, No, I have no idea about the calories. I wish I knew but that wasn't listed in the book. I was thinking about that too initially. To be honest, I don't count calories. I have been having one of the bars for breakfast with a piece of string cheese. I've made 5 batches of them since I first posted about them. (4 with Choc Stack and 1 with Vanilla PS 100). They are so yummy! I must admit that I even prefer them over Detour bars and for me that saying a lot! :-) I was on a plateau for a while at 178...after a week of having one every day for breakfast I went down 4 lbs. Might just be coincidence, I dunno. All I know is that they have not stalled my weight loss at all. ~Kricket > > OK I am dying to know how you all liked the homemade protein bars > > recipe that I posted here and emailed to over 300 of you fine > > folks! :-) I am of the opinion that they are the most heavenly, > > totally divine thing that I have ever eaten that contains protein! > > What did you all think? > > > > ~Kricket 11-13-02 > > 298/174/145-160 (where ever it lands!) Guest guest
I made these the other night. They are good, but I, too, was worried about the calories and fat content due to the butter and peanut butter. I did use fat free cream cheese, so that made me feel better. However, I am not a real peanut butter fan. I'm thinking I could maybe replace the peanut butter with some extra fat free cream cheese and use vanilla powder. Then, flavor it with a bit of s/f syrup of choice. I'm waiting for my order from Vitalady...maybe I will play with the recipe when that order comes in... Guest guest
I figured the calories out to be approx 308 per piece with Kricket's adjustments. (extra butter, etc) That is a lot of calories indeed. I decided to cut them up small and eat just a piece at a time. Guest guest
I made them with Vanilla PS 100 recently and according to my (non scientific) methods, even when adding the extra butter...they came in at 224 calories a piece. (I used the Neufchatel Cream Cheese and Simply Jif-creamy this time). I think if you play around with it a bit, you can bring down the calories. And this recipe is so versatile that YES, it can be played with! PS you are probably right with the 308 calories when made with Choc Stack. ~Kricket > > > > OK I am dying to know how you all liked the homemade protein > > bars > > > > recipe that I posted here and emailed to over 300 of you fine > > > > folks! :-) I am of the opinion that they are the most heavenly, > > > > totally divine thing that I have ever eaten that contains > > protein! > > > > What did you all think? > > > > > > > > ~Kricket 11-13-02 > > > > 298/174/145-160 (where ever it lands!) Guest guest
>> Do proximals malabsorb fat too? I am only 9 days out and was told fat free cause I'd dump on fat. I know everyone is different, but does this happen to alot of people? I'm very proximal, and I don't dump on fat but I do malabsorb fat. If I eat fatty food, it goes through me pretty much without leaving much behind. Fat free foods are usually loaded with carbs, because they replace the fat with carb-y fillers. Look at the label on fat free cream cheese compared to regular cream cheese, or fat free cheddar compared to regular cheddar, and you will see way more carbs (which we tend NOT to malabsorb, so eating them can both cause dumping and slow weight loss). I don't eat fat-free anything, as it always has more carbs than I am willing to accept when I can eat the real food and get better flavor and texture. ~~ Lyn G
