Hi Stacie,

You'll love this group! Everyone is so nice!

I am a novice at this, as I'm still trying to figure out Shane's diet, but what I've found that has helped me the most with him is keeping a log of everything he eats, his bathroom habits, how he feels, hives, rashes, etc., so when he has an off day, isn't feeling well, diarrhea, hives, etc., it's easier to tack down the culprit.

Also when you're allergic to something, I've found it's best to eliminate it completely.

If you're still nursing her it's important that you keep track of everything you ingest, and her reactions, like on a day her rash is worse, what did you have? What did she have? Then you can start correlating the foods with the reactions.

New here :)

Hi everyone! I just joined this list and I'm hoping someone can help me or at least give me some insight. My name is Stacie and I have three children. A 9 year old son, an 8 year old daughter, and a 20 month old daughter.

My daughter (20 months today) has had a rash around her mouth since August or early September. At first it was just a few pimple-like spots by her mouth. I actually thought it was because she kept stealing my cherry tomatoes from the garden. ;) As time went on, it spread around her mouth and became more noticeable. She also has similiar dots on her bottom. It would flare up and then fade for several days at a time. I finally asked her doctor about it in the beginning of October and his advise was to do nothing. It kept flaring and fading and spreading each time it flared. I finally took her to a local chiropractic internist who I've heard great things about regarding allergies. We first took the cat away and used homeopathic pet allergy drops. The rash kept the same fade and flare pattern. The next week he took her off all wheat/dairy/soy/oranges. It continued the same pattern and had now spread around her nose. It finally took a big turn for the worse and he gave us a fungal cream and homeopathic fungal drops. The cream made the rash (and the skin not affected by the rash) even worse and obviously burned her skin. The next day we tried an triple antibiotic cream and that really helped clear it up. After a few days he told us to stop using the cream because it looked like the rash was clearing up. After about three days of no flare ups, the rash was back. He has now given her allerstat homeopathic drops to detect if it is indeed a food allergy. Since starting the drops on Monday, her rash has been horrible. Last night was the worst I've seen it -- possibly the worse since all this started. I was under the impression that if it was food allergies that these drops would clear up the rash, even if she ate the offending food. I called him yesterday and he said if the allergy was strong enough that the drops may not work. I am very frustrated, as I'm sure you all have been, too.

Does this sound like anything that's happened with your children? She is still nursing, usually in the morning and before bed. I have had dairy and wheat on a few occassions while she's not had any except for last Saturday. I introduced all new foods slowly when she was starting to eat and didn't notice any reactions to wheat or dairy. I did notice that she would get a bad diaper rash with orange juice. Sometimes during the rash flare ups she also gets a welt on the inside of her right leg (where the diaper rubs). One more observation is that last week we went to my dad's house in another state for two days. While we were there, the rash looked the best that it ever has -- you could hardly even tell it was there. I noticed that she skipped both her bedtime and next morning nursing while we were there. While I also noticed that the last few days she's nursing much more because she's teething -- and her rash looks HORRIBLE.

Does anyone have any ideas or experiences like this?

Welcome Stacie. Gosh I have no clue about the rash. I just wanted to tell

you that I'm glad you found us. I agree about keeping a list of everything

she eats to see if there is a link somewhere. That is what we did when we

suspected that dairy was triggering my oldest son's eczema. He was negative

on his skin test and only a very slight positive on blood work so we

eliminated it from his diet. It was the culprit (and cause of hyper

behavior as well).

The only other thing I can think of is that the rash is caused by her

teething. (wouldn't that just annoy you with all you have been through?). I

know that with my middle child he had a rash around his mouth when he got

some molars in from drooling. The digestive system can be out of sorts when

teething causing a rash on her bottom.

I hope you find out the cause! I would take her to an allergist and see if

they will do some testing on the suspected allergens.

Drew, 7.5 years, anaphylactic to peanuts, allergic to dogs, environmental

allergies, severe eczema, outgrown dairy!

Mattie, 5 years, no known allergies

, 15 months, no known allergies but avoiding all nuts until she is much

older!

Welcome! I'm also new to the group (via Sarasmommy!). Everyone is

very friendly, well informed and helpful.

Sandy

- almost 4 yrs. old -- allergies to peanuts, cats and dust

mites.... and (dare I say....formerly allergic to eggs!??) We just

got blood tests back today that rated eggs a " 1 " so the doctor said to

give them a try but to watch for reactions.
