These issues are important to the scientific community, pharmaceutical and biologics manufacturers, and regulatory authorities. The purpose of this meeting is to review state-of-the-art techniques for assessing and managing risks of contamination with infectious agents of animal origin. The Scientific Program is divided into the following sections: Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies; Risks associated with other infectious agents; Production and maintenance of animals free of infectious agents; New testing methods to identify and validate the inactivation and removal of infectious agents; and Regulatory aspects of risk analysis and mutual recognition. This international meeting will bring together research scientists, manufacturers, and regulators to exchange scientific information.
