Guest guest
, honey, you are scared and a nervous wreck. Sweetie, we will help you, don't cry. My name is Marilyn, I am mom to 6, grandma to 7 and foster mom to 45. I understand your heart is breaking due to the fear. You are going to be okay, you just need to learn about diabetes. There is much information out there for you, but you don't need to learn it all at once. First, do you have a home test kit? Do you have insurance to cover the cost of the test strips? These things make it much easier to " stay on track " . Get a notebook, test before you eat, write down the number, Test again 2 hours after you eat. If the increase is greater than 40, you ate too many carbs. Sugar, carbohydrates, starchy vegetables all make the numbers rise. Rice, potatoes, white bread, will all increase your BG's (blood glucose numbers) Either buy, or borrow a copy of Dr. Rubin's Diabetes for Dummies. It is a good place to start. I also recommend a cookbook called HELP Healthy Exchanges by Jo Lund. Also available in a library or a bookstore. This is enough for now, digest this and let me know what you need. Don't be afraid sweetie, you and your little one will be fine. I will add you to my prayer list. Hugs, Marilyn Hey Everybody, I am new here and thought I would come on and say hello to everybody. I am 21 years old and my doctor just told me that I have diabetes. I have had pancreatits for years but not diabetes---this is so new to me. I have a two year old daughter and I hope this don't mess me up real bad. Does anybody know how I should cook my meals now? Should I change my whole style of eating? Should I cook different for the whole family or what? I am so lost. Please help. I have cried for days now that I know I have diabetes---I just feel like its the end of my world. My Grandma died from complications of diabetes. It is the 4th of July and I am sitting here at the computer crying---I think I am depressed!!!!!!! Marilyn Moderator for Diabetic_Recipes dnevessr@...
