Please see the note I just sent, it should explain to you how this is a very easily handled on a diabetic diet, with out medications, using diet and exercise alone. ;-) it is doable! Guest guest
Hi, I just wanted to share my point of view with you. With your blood sugar at 120 at the time you eat seems awful high to me. There are days that I have pancreatitis pain and I can't even eat and my blood sugar rises to over 500 by itself, I tend to use more insulin than if I were having a regular meal. There are also days when my sugar goes into the 40 and I eat beyond my regular meal and take less insulin. I am on a sliding scale and I try to keep things normal as possible. I guess what I am trying to say is your milage may vary. You should watch very closely anything that you may eat when your sugar is 120 because it does not take very much to tip the scales. Knowing that you only have 20 more to be at the high limit you need to adjust your eating habits or see your doctor because you may have to start taking oral medicine very soon. The body changes as you get older and for me that is a daily problem because of my pancreas problems. With sugar staying near 120 mark for me that is an injection of 30 units of insulin for every meal. I also know that 235 is not very high for some people. I have heard of some that their doctor wanted them to keep their sugar at 300 to avoid the sudden drop that would go as low in the 20s. We all are different, so please do not leave. Just use what you know works for you at the time. I also agree that who you cook far is important if they have no diabetes problem. I would not like it if I had to make my family suffer just because of me. There is a lot of factors to think about it when you are a diabetic. Some choices may cause more damage than the disease itself, like family problems. We are in this together though we all are different. Just my own opinion. Please stay with us. Guest guest
hi guys! ok, first things first: don't go! the discussion of all this is very educational! i wanted to ask a couple of things. first, how low is low carb? my med. team was pretty emphatic about eating a pretty normal diet for overall health, and esp. cardio-vascular health, since diabetics are at greater risk for these problems. of course, they may get kickbacks, but yes, i think they'd rather people take meds than have too restricted a diet. so my first question is...how did y'all weigh pros and cons of meds or no meds? the other thing, and i've been wondering about this, my doctor wants me to only make corrections at mealtimes. but that sort of means eating when you are already high (and actually, my range for a pre- prandial high is >130) and letting some highs ride for quite awhile. frankly, i don't obey this directive. so my second question is...do most folks here wait to eat until you are in range? ok! rach > > OK, on this porkettes receipes which has 27 carbs per serving > that would raise my blood sugar 135 points. Guest guest
I can't believe this is carbs related in the traditional way (15gr=1carb)...That would make 27 carbs equal to 405 grams...That's like eating 15 twinkies--YUCH!!! I think we all have to get on the correct page here. For me 1 carb equals 20 points and 4 units of humolog...If I eat 4 carbs I need to inject 16 units. It will vary for everyone. However, this is the way I read this recipe [alldiabeticinternational] Porkettes Porkettes Christy Jefferson 1 lb ground fully cooked lean ham 1 egg 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish 1 tsp prepared mustard 2 cups mashed cooked sweet potatoes 1 tsp grated orange peel 1/8 tsp pepper 8 turkey bacon strips, halved lengthwise 1 can (20 ozs) pineapple slices, drained and halved horizontally In a bowl, combine the ham, egg, pickle relish and mustard. Guest guest
Sorry to reply again---I just read the recipe---and I see it is 27 grams...this means , if I interpret your comments correctly, your Bg raises 60+points per carb and that seems awfully high...I would guess you are borderline insulin dependant or diet challenged????
