Guest guest
Because as diabetics we sometimes " short ourselves " of juices, we may not be adding sufficient vitamin C to our diets. Maybe we should consider supplementing with a vitamin pillo. Any thoughts on this? Do you take vitamins? Hugs, marilyn Vitamin C Saves Arteries 16 oz of orange juice does the trick by Sarí Harrar In a 10-year study of 2,419 middle-aged men, Finnish researchers found that the risk of stroke was 2.4 times higher in men with low plasma vitamin C than in those with moderate to high levels of vitamin C. Overweight men or those with high blood pressure who got little C were at 3 times higher risk of stroke (Stroke, June 2002). The low-C group got less than the equivalent of half a glass of OJ per day: less than 40 mg of C. The high-C group got as much daily vitamin C as you'd get from two glasses of OJ: about 200 mg. Vitamin C minimizes artery damage from free radicals, reduces blood pressure, and helps control cholesterol, says lead study author Sudhir Kurl, MD. The easiest way to boost your vitamin C quotient: Have two 8-oz glasses of OJ per day.
Guest guest
Hi Marilyn-- I take a Vitamin C tablet 200mg twice a day. My doctor thinks it is a good idea. In fact, he insists on it now because along with the diabetes (type 1 for 30 yrs) I also have a disease called sarcoidosis. It has pretty much made my lungs useless. The vitamin C (and zinc) help prevent colds which could be very dangerous for me. I also take " One A Day for Women " every day. Thanks, Marilyn
