Guest guest
Hello everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself as the newbie of this group. I'm Frauke (36) and married to Kelvin (38) and mom of 3 ages 13, 11 and 15 months. My hubby is from Memphis, Tennessee and I'm from the Netherlands. Right now we are stationed in Germany (Airforce) My oldest daughter of 13 was diagnosed in March 2003 with having diabetes type 1. We had a rocky 15 months with her, admitted 4 times because her sugar levels were way up there, going every month to the hospital for check ups, the arguments at home because her refusal to shoot insuline and just the effect it had on her, us as a family and the rest of world (with that I mean her friends and all) She was the first in school with diabetes, first in her sport to have it and first in the family to have it. And hitting puberty at the same time where her hormones are raging through her body was and still is not helping a lot. It calmed down a lot for us since then because she and we started to deal with it better. But now she is getting frustrated because every time she has to inject, it hurts. She has to inject 4x a day and she gets bumbs on her stomach and legs. So every time she cries and it hurts me to see that. They think now that she might be allergic to her insuline. I hear the results of the tests Monday. Anyway, just wanted to say that I'm glad I'm accepted as a member of this group. Hope to get to know you all, Frauke __________________________________________________
Guest guest
-Hi Frauke! I have type 1, (27 years now) my daughter, turning 11 in sept. also has type 1 (6 years). It can be really hard, if you would like you can contact me via instant message, and maybe your daughter and mine could " talk " sometimes it's good to just have a friend who knows what you are going through. We also belong to another site, which is quite helpful as well, it is www.childrenwithdiabetes.com there is great info there, and chat rooms for the kids, as well as for the parents. I wish you and your family well! Take care! -- In alldiabeticinternational , wrote: > Hello everyone, > > Just wanted to introduce myself as the newbie of this group. > I'm Frauke (36) and married to Kelvin (38) and mom of 3 ages 13, 11 and 15 months. > My hubby is from Memphis, Tennessee and I'm from the Netherlands. Guest guest
wanted to wave and say hi to all new members and hi frauke! i love your name i don't think injections should hurt. sting at most. plus bumps and so forth...that does sound like an allergic reaction...unless there is bruising. if there is bruising, it may mean hitting veins. occassionally i do that, and what happens is - sounds yucky - but blood wells up under the skin and makes a bump. kind of like an IV, when the needle doesn't hit a vein, and the liquid inside goes under the skin instead of through the vein. what size needles are you using? what kind of insulin(s) do you have? i know the animal-derived insulins are more prone to causing allergic reactions than the rDNA, *human* insulins. i'm in california. they say diabetes is going to be our #1 health problem. saw this article once that pointed out for such a fateful disease, there are a whole lot of diabetics...so many in fact, that we ought to consider what evolutionary advantage the diabetic genetic makeup conveys. i just like to point that out to get people off my back ;> my best friend growing up was a type 1 diabetic (that was before meters and rDNA insulin) and i was diagnosed type 1 end of last year. we are finally total *partners in crime*...so lots of sympathy here. ok. glad you've joined us! rach > It calmed down a lot for us since then because she and we started to deal with it better.
