Guest guest
Hi Rhona, I cried and cried in the allergists office. And they encouraged it. She even told me that I would go home and grieve and I did..for quite some time!! My son Jack is 3 and was recently diagnosed with treenut allergy after an anaphylactic shock. You ask if you'd been playing Russian Roulette...from what I understand traces can mean anything from whole nuts on unwashed machines to nothing at all...you could have been at this end of the spectrum. The other thing though that I personally think is that the amount may not be that significant. Jack ate such a minute amount of Nutella like spread and had a full blown attack. We also think it must have been a cross contamination with a walnut in the hazelnut choc spread. Imagine how trace that must have been! I'd say, don't worry about the past just cover yourself in the future. We allow no traces in our house or ever in his mouth. That way if he can ever grow out of it we'll have a better chance. From what I understand in Australia where I am, there's a decent chance of outgrowing peanut allergy......... so it has to be worth cutting traces!! Rhona, everyone here has gone through the numbness, feeling of loss and sadness but honestly it really does get more normal!! After only 3 months I am starting to realise the crap I fed my child before LOL and how lucky he is that I am paying so much attention to his diet now! There are ironically lots of positives like this that I'm only just realising! You find out pretty quickly who your real friends are. This can be hard as I found on occasion, but I don't want a friend who can't make small adjustments for my child when he goes to her house! I've also made alot of loving and lovely friends! Like these girls here! I hate having a child who is food allergic but I've got one so I've got to get on with it. Knowledge is power! Arm yourself with some good advice and information and you'll feel a zillion times better! lots of love, libby Jack 3years, walnut, hazelnut, dustmite Gracie 1 year nothing at all hooray! _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963
