Guest guest
<< I just had bloodwork done to test for CMT 1b on Thursday. Also tested for Friederich's Ataxia as well. >> Good, last I heard " CMT Type 1B is in the experimental stages is available at some of the University Medical Centres that are doing research. " Friederich's Ataxia is not a type of CMT of course, but they are sometimes misdiagnosed as each other. With FA I thought a person had a much shorter lifespan. I hope you learn something helpful. I would have guessed you were type 2, but the overt symptoms of the types overlap so much and are so variable one can't really know by symptoms, progression and all that. Even docs seem to have trouble figuring it all out sometimes. Kat

Guest guest
Can someone tell me a bit about this Friederich's Ataxia and how the conditions (CMT, FA) are alike/why misdiagnosed. Thanks, Marc

Guest guest
I would, but my type isn't even there, unless it's considered pre- diabetes. Hypoglycemic, but still not under control. Guest guest
Rolf, Please comment away! I don't understand why people just can't listen and not pass judgement. It's not as if you are trying to hurt anyone! I find your insight very valuable. Gail

Guest guest
Hello All; Rolf here 56 yo, T2 dx'd 7 years Metabolic Syndrome, Cardiac arrest survivor, cancer survivor, who takes his knowledge of T2 diabetes, nutrition, and health care too seriously. I'm one of those who has declared that I will no longer hazard a serious comment on diabetic issues. I will try to make generally unaffected casual comments where appropriate, but since my comments regarding serious diabetic issues taking 7 years to learn about T2 diabetes have been called to task by other members, it will be a much less disconcerting to the group if I keep meaningful comments to myself. [alldiabeticinternational] types Hey all, Jamez here. Some of the members have mentioned the differences in types of diabetes and, apparently, it is causing a degree of reticence for some of our members to put up a post. Going 'silent' is not helping anyone, and that is why we are all here-to help each other. As a result, a new policy of asking members to state their type is being put into place. I am now asking new members when I send out a welcome letter to let us know who they are and what type. For those of us already here, feel free to let us all know your type, if you like. The idea of this board is not to make each other feel uncomfortable or out of place. Want to see who is in your category? Go to the poll section and look at the survey. While you are there, vote on your own type. It's about sharing information. Can't share if you don't participate. The poll will help you to learn more about yourself and those whom you have more in common with. We are all in this together and we can all learn something from each other. Hopefully, this will aid in cutting down on some of the misunderstandings and controversy. The dis-ease provides enough of that without any help from us. We are listening to what is being said and taking your opinions on how to improve the board for the benefit of all. As moderator, I thank you for all of the helpful suggestions you have been providing to assist with the quality of information provided and the growth of ADI. Kudos to you all!
