Guest guest
Thanks to all those who expressed interest in my diet! It's nice to see Lota posting every day. I don't think I can do that! But I've done very well so far (4 days and counting...). I've averaged about 1400 calories a day and find I am not hungry on this diet. The first 2 weeks are EXTREMELY strict on carb intake (no juice, fruit, potatoes, pasta or bread). But I 'cheated' once and had 2 crackers, plus I had some juice one morning when I woke up slightly low (71BG). My BGs have been extraordinary! I average around 100, and with my insulin pump it is easy to set 'square wave' or 'dual wave' boluses to stretch out the insulin delivery for higher protein and fat meals. The only time my BGs spiked were today, when I had an iced coffee with sugar free vanilla syrup and soymilk. I was not aware that soymilk isn't allowed the first 2 weeks on the diet, and I question the syrup they use at Starbucks. If anyone can tell me they've had BG spikes from the sugar-free syrup I'd be interested to know. So, basically, I've eaten omelets in the morning, with plenty of veggies, nonfat cheese and I bought some TVP pepperoni to spice things up. At lunch I've had HUGE salads with tuna or eggs, nonfat cheese, chick peas, tomatoes, etc and vinagerette dressing. I also ate some TVP bologna as well on one of those days. At dinner I've had roasted veggies and fish one night, stir-fry tofu w/veggies another night. Tonight the coffee killed my stomach, so I ate a broiled tomato with some spices and lowfat provolone cheese, and a couple of crackers and 3 almonds. And each night I've had one of their 'ricotta cream' desserts made with part skim ricotta and sweetener and a flavouring agent (vanilla extract for example). I am amazed, as I am not hungry, do not feel tired or weak, and have lost 1 lb already. After the first 2 weeks, you get to open the carbs, and cantelope will be first on my list. The website Lota suggested has been wonderful. I input my foods and activity and there is a journal where I am logging my insulin, BGs and any changes I make to my basal rate. It also lets you examine your nutrition averages. I plan on printing it all out to take to my doctor. So, that's the story so far. I'll post again after I weigh myself on Saturday. I know I really shouldn't weigh myself every day, so though I did after 3 days, I won't again until Saturday. Thanks for everyone's interest and concern!
