Hello everyone, I became diabetic last August after an attack of

pancreatitis, the advice I have been given from many people is to

keep a regular check on my blood sugars. I check 3 to 4 times a day,

however my doctor told me today that it is not necessary? he says

once or twice a week is enough.

I have recently been put on new medication lantus insulin and

novorapid, which has got my blood sugars to an acceptable level, but

I think I would be concerned if I went to bed without testing as I

live alone.

I would welcome some advice about the frequency that the bs should

be tested.

Many thanks

Keep testing like you have been. If you are on insulin, you really

need to keep the levels in cheque. Do the 3-4 times a day,

especially, since you live alone.

Tony,

I would definitely recommend checking your B/S levels at bedtime and

every other time you inject (whether you are alone or not). Also

check a few times in the morning when you wake. I was finding my b/s

would drop in the middle of the night, so I went to a higher target

number after dinner to compensate. Also, once every couple of weeks

you should try waking up in the middle of your sleep and taking a

measurement. It can be useful information when fine tuning your doses.
