Two things bother me a lot about this disease: One, doctors don't tell

patients how to eat, mine didn't. I learned from these lists. They tell them

that

sugars up to 200 are OK and they are not. Why shouldn't a diabetic's sugar

run as close to normal as a non diabetic? I think this is the reason so many

of us have complications. So the second thing is that people see these high

carb receipes (my opinion) and think it is OK to eat them.

You are absolutely right here. I was told " you have diabetes. Go home, I

will mail you a referral for the diabetes society. " That was the cruelest thing

to do to someone. I left the dr's office, drove straight to the book store,

bought Dr. Rubin's Diabetes for Dummies. I was, I read it cover to cover, a

few times. I also bought Jo Lund's HELP Healthy Recipes for Diabetics. I

also read this cover to cover. Using her pantry list, because it was a whole

new way of cooking. I also dropped 50 pounds. My A1c's are all very good,

the only bad one I ever had was after I had steroids injected into my arthritic

knee. It was 10.4 I believe. I was furious when I found out diabetics don't

do steroids unless they are in the hospital and with insulin handy, to bring

things into control. I fired that doctor. 3 months lated my A1c was back to

6, where it has remained. I take 3 metformin a day now, a holdover from the

steroid, it never has gotten as low as it was prior to the shot, but I am not

unhappy with it.

OK, I'm off my soapbox and back to lurking. Oh, I am on other lists and they

are very supportive and helpful. I was just questioning why the MAJORITY of

listings are receipes. Again, my personal opinion is it would be better to

be supportive and helpful to ech other than just post receipes.

When I was asked to come to the list, there were 3 questions I asked. I am a

Christian and do not pretend to be otherwise, is that okay, I make

inspirational posts occasionally. Was told no problem. Second, I love recipes

for

Diabetics, and really consider my time spent as a mission for my fellow man.

Third, I belong to several groups that are diabetic, may I use the option to

send

to all groups, instead of pretending to only do one group. I was also assured

this is no problem, so I do. Now, I send recipes as I get them, unless I see

they are beyond 45 per meal, as the dietitian told me. I have never seen or

heard anyone at the formentioned levels. Possibly they are type ones? I have

no idea why some would have to be this low in a carb ratio. I also send

diabetic information, anything I find that may help someone else along their

way.

I'll probably get slammed for my opinions which is why I usually don't post.

I believe I answered you before today, quite nicely if I do say so

myself ;-) I don't recall slamming anyone ;-) Hugs, Marilyn
