Guest guest
Mucous can also be present from other intestinal conditions, i.e. colitis or irritable bowel syndrome. My son has colitis, diagnosed by colonoscopy, and used to always have mucous present in his stool, along with loose and not so loose stools. This is much improved over the last couple of years. Guest guest
The first thing to suspect when you see mucus in stool is an allergy or sensitivity to something he ate. Has he eaten something different the last few days? We had a similar problem a while back but were unable to isolate the particular foods causing the problem. A 100 food IGG test solved the problem for us. Guest guest
: It seems to me that does not have any signs of colitis or IBS. In fact the opposite seems to be true. He is sleeping through the night longer, never seems to have gas problems, is grwoing well, and eating well. What other signs should I look for? Guest guest
Well my son has had loose stools for years. In fact, when they started to tighten up, it was so noticeable that I showed people (smile). Also with poor digestion, he had very foul smelling poops with mucous stranding, more like a sour odor. He was medicated for this for over 2 years. He had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy when he was 5. The colonoscopy showed colitis and the endoscopy was normal for any stomach problems or celiac disease. Sal also complained of belly aches with crying and putting my hands on his belly to rub. Also trouble with lactose can produce mucousy stools, but this is accompanied by gas and bloating.
