Can Taking a Bath Lower BG?

I have found on a couple of occassions that my bg numbers have

dropped aprox. 40 point after taking a warm bath. Has this happened

to anyone else. I'm a Recently dignosed type 1. My doctor said that

he is amazed at how well I have gotten my numbers under control, so

I don't think the bath thing is because of being recently diagnosed.

I have been eating a snack before I bathe to make sure I do not drop

too low.

Absolutely right Bruce. A check with a mirror if you cannot see your feet

well, or a friend, spouse or doctor is always a good thing done at least weekly,

too. Hugs, marilyn

This is not true of all diabetics, but if you have neuropathy in your feet you

might not feel it if you burn/scald yourself.

A bath sounds heavenly....

But what's this about not applying heat to your feet? Why is that

bad for diabetics? I've never heard of this.

i found this article on mendosa's site. i found it very enlightening

on hot baths and hot tubs. Yes, and you have to be careful of the

neuropathy. A hot bath sounds like a wonderful idea!!!!

thanks for letting me share!!

I have a book here and it says.... " your feet should never be soaked,

and hot water should be avoided " . I thought I read somewhere that you

should avoid bathing and instead shower. *shrugs*

So if your feet should never be soaked... does that mean that

swimming is out of the question???

If swimming is to be avoided no one told Hall Jr, one of our Olympic

swimmers. He has had type 1 since 1999. Despite his being diabetic he won 4

Gold medals in Sydney. Hopefully, he'll bring home some more from Athens. I

find people like him so inspirational. They really keep me going.

NOPE :-) just the opposite. Hugs, Marilyn did you ever have a ring that

was tight and you held your hand in cool watter a little while and it was able

to come off? Same principle.;-)

1. In the case of diabetics (as discussed before) if we have neuropathy

we might scald or burn ourselves without realizing it.

2. Because hot baths (and saunas and steamrooms) can change the

bloodpressure suddenly--driving it up or down--it can cause stroke, to

which we are more vulnerable.

Speaking of saunas, do you know what the Finns and Swedes do? They

build the sauna hut on the edge of a lake; while you're inside baking,

the attendant takes an ax and chops a hole in the ice; when you're

sufficiently parcooked, you are expected to run out and dive in through

the hole into the lake. They say that it is good for the complexion;

personally, I'd rather have zits. (Scandinavians are known for being a

very healthy people; this sort of treatment probably killed off all

their weaklings a long time ago!)

I remember at the YMCA there was a sign outside the sauna saying that

diabetics shouldn't use it.
