Zyprexa Side Effects

Zyprexa has recently been linked to serious side effects that cause

unhealthy changes to a patients blood sugar level. The conditions

linked to Zyprexa use are: diabetes mellitus, hyperglycemia, and

ketoacidosis. Zyprexa is extremely dangerous for people who have been

diagnosed with diabetes or hyperglycemia as it further exacerbates

the patients condition.

Diabetes Mellitus: Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that occurs when

the body is not able to use sugar as it should. It is a chronic

disease caused by inherited and/or acquired deficiency in production

of insulin by the pancreas, or by the ineffectiveness of the insulin

produced. Such a deficiency results in increased concentrations of

glucose in the blood, which in turn damage many of the body's

systems, in particular the blood vessels and nerves.

Hyperglycemia: Hyperglycemia means higher than normal (hyper) level

of glucose (sugar) in the blood. Normal fasting blood sugar is

between 70-110 mg/dl. However, high sugar levels can be seen

immediately following meals. Hyperglycemia can be a sign of

undiagnosed or uncontrolled diabetes. The signs of hyperglycemia

include increased urine, thirst, hunger, dry-itchy skin and fatigue.

Diabetic Ketoacidosis: Diabetic ketoacidosis, or DKA, is a condition

in which the body has a severe deficiency of insulin. Insulin is a

hormone that helps regulate the level of glucose in the blood.

Glucose is the main form of sugar in the body. DKA is a serious

complication of diabetes. Early signs of DKA include the classic

signs of high blood glucose: excessive hunger, excessive thirst and

increased urination.
