I do great on Lipitor 20mg's. My dh has a gene that does not allow cholesterol to stay low.(at 21 it was 415) I don't really understand the chemical breakdowns of why. Some of our kids also have it and most of his uncles have experienced fatal of heart attacks. Don was not doing as well on the Lipitor, they kept increasing it until he was at 80mg's. He has been on a statin since they came out and questran (?) before that. Don is on a heavy duty pain killer dripped into his spinal fluid, I say this because when he'd been on the 80's a fairly short time, he began experiencing pain in his arms and joints like his arms were going to drop off. We even saw his cardiologist, unsure if his heart was involved. His primary dr said to keep taking it, he was sure it wasn't the lipitor. Don stopped anyway. The pain disappeared. He returned to his dr, who threw his arms in the air and said " oh " Then he put Don on Zetia, no problems, later they added crestor. No problems yet, we will keep our eyes open.
