Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I am a newbie here. My name is Sheila and I am the wife of a type 1 diabetic. He has been DX for 18 years. He uses an insulin pump. We have been married for 11 year, 12 in Oct., together for 14 years. We have 1 daughter Tris-10 years old, 3 fur babbies, Choc. lab Sadie 7 years old, blk lab Lucy 3 years old, and a calico cat Abby that is almost 2. We would love to have more flesh babies, but God did not plan it that way for us. We make our home just outside of Memphis, TN in Mississippi. Gregg and I both work for the city where we live. He is a paramedic on the EMS service and I work in the dispatch office. In 2000 Gregg had to have several eye surgeries b/c of diabetes and we also found out that he was in the beginning stages of renal disease. His kidneys failed in 2002 and he started on dialysis. He is listed for a kidney/panceas transplant with University of Alabama in Birmingham. We have been waiting for 1 year this month. He is still able to work. Well this is our story. I look forward to meeting new people and hopefully learning new things that can assist us in our fight to win. Gregg and I view life with diabetes as a fight. So far the diabetes has won a few battles, but not the war. Sheila L Mynatt

His kidneys failed in 2002 and he started on dialysis Hi Sheila, I am sure sorry Gregg is having such a time. Being in the field that he is, I am sure he sees a lot of things that make him question his own health. Does he have any one to talk to that has been through kidney failure and the transplant? I think this is a really good thing for him to have. If not, tell him that , owner of the GotDiabetes@... has been through this and has a very good outlook. She is friendly, happily married (you don't have to worry ;-) and is willing to talk to anyone who needs help. She is also a diabetes educator (or almost one). You both work in a service field, and I just want to say I admire you both. It is so wonderful when someone can give something to their community! I am here pretty much every day, if I can help or you just need an ear to bend, I am here. Will add Gregg to my prayer list.
