Lynn,

I agree with Judy wholeheartedly. I have a large folder FULL of Emails I've received from all over the world of people trying to push their products without a CLUE of what the disease process is we are dealing with, how it works and doesnt work and what actual HARM their products could inflict.

Caution, caution caution. Education, education education.

Steph.

Re: [eosinophilic gastroenteritis] (unknown)

Lynn,

I certainly wouldn't try anything like that without first checking with his doctors. I am even shy about taking vitamins because I am not sure how I will react to them. I think you do want to be informed about what alternatives are available and then with the doctors make educated choices.

So many of these things like the Aloe you are talking about are just high priced elixirs like the traveling Medicine shows used to sell. They make promises with no real facts to back them up. I don't know that this is anything like that, but I urge caution.

Lynn,

I just wanted to offer my support and agree with you that it is very hard

on

parents and children. Although it seems hard to look at our kids as

normal,

I really think they are. I guess food isn't everything and their

personalities shine through all of the other stuff. Spencer has a Central

IV line a G-tube and a J-tube but I still let him do most things that he

can

do without dangling himself. I can't recall a time when someone has looked

at him as not normal. In fact yesterday we were shopping at a bunch of

different places and went to dinner and I didn't get one comment except

things like " Boy you son has a lot of energy and spark " (That was at

dinner)

He only had a cup of water and a spoon. He also had an IV in plain view

for

everyone to see. Although I probably would have thought that I would get a

lot of comments, I did not get one regarding what was wrong with him.

Even with three tubes in this kid he's as normal as they come........Hope

this helps.

unusual amount of headaches jsut in that short time..they haven't been too bad

Ditto for me. In the beginning of steroids I get headaches, then heart

racing. Also, when I am coming down on a taper if I taper too quickly, the

same thing happens. You should speak to your doctor. It can also be a

symptom of adrenal insufficiency which can happen if you've been on high

doses for a long, long time.

I don't get to the meeting but I enjoy the mosiac list interaction and

information. I think what you are doing is a god send to both the children

and the parents of children involved with this issue..

I believe the more people find out about this the better..

Thanks again.

I find Mosaic and other lists to be therapeutic. Imagine how isolating

having autism in the family was before the internet. Dealing with new

parents makes me feel more positive about my own child because we are

constantly reminded about what we should be doing or could be doing. And

everything stays so current - we have decided that Super Nu Thera made

stim more so I will be buying the vitamins you have recommended and written

about in the past Jonathon! And the friendships have been invaluable.

Mosaic has been a god send but it has been a two way street! We have all

made Mosaic what it is.

I'm okay with it, I need a larger audience for my stand up routine that I'm

perfecting. And, when I turn the group into a religious organization we

need lots of people to make donations. So, put it in the B&N Newsletter.

Heidi

(unknown)

I doubt we'll have an avalanche of new parents. I left the flyer last

year at COSAC and we didn't have an avalanche. How many new parents

of autistic children are reading the Ridgewood and Noble

newsletter? We have discussed making a flyer for distribution - I

thought we were clear about wanting to spread the word about Mosaic.

If anyone wants to keep the group small I suppose now is the time to

speak up.

Mosaic meets the 2nd Thursday morning (Paramus Park Food Court) and the 3rd

Wednesday evening (The Arc in Hackensack) of every month. All are welcome.

Thanks Judy for the quick reply. Although I am not quite sure what " snook " means

I can guess it is similar to being a " chicken " ?? I am a chiropractic physician

and know just enough to make me scared of the procedure, or any needle/knife for

that matter!!

Thanks again, will let everyone know if I " qualify " and if I don't chicken out.

Hello there Mikey

I had my band done 3 weeks ago today - and I thought -

no I can do it myself the weekend before (silly woman

-if I could have I would not have needed the band) -

when the dr ( my surgeon is Dr Ritchie in

Sydney) and my anaesthetist came and saw me on the

Sunday - I was a bit nervous - and had to take a

sleeping pill to quell the nerves - then when I needed

my preop - I was howling I could not go through the

pain - but said do it anyway I need to lose weight - I

want to live as long as possible ( i am only 30 btw)

and then i was in surgery and i was like oh its cold

and between the mice climbing up the wall (strange

side effect of the preop....) I then suddenly woke up

and it was all done...

I had my surgery done because I needed to lose weight

and wanted to look better and be able to buy clothes

that I want, not those that thin ppl design for fat

ppl. (they are all really crappy... except maybe for

the new innovare woman range at grace brothers.myers

(for the girls who are reading this...))

so chin up - the band is the start of a better thinner

life... one of my friends who had the band said

remember not to be a loner and to get lots of

support... for me its not the support for the exercise

or eating - its the mind set support... if you get

what I mean... the when am i going to lose some

more... or for me.. i think i was cranky with myself

initially after the surgery that i could not have done

this weight loss thing myself... (that was when i was

sore and had just started to move around after the

surgery)

I have lost weight rapidly in the last 3 weeks (nearly

10.5 kilos) but I hope it will slow down so I will be

able to maintain it. I find it hard sometimes not to

eat real food - but for a chocolate lover like I am I

thought it would be hard to abstain - but what I find

hard is not being able to eat thai, chinese food or

dont laugh a good piece of bbq chicken... but from the

sounds of it I will be able to eat some of those

things in moderation. If I am tempted I think it was

just that one tim tam that made me look and weigh this

in the first place! (Hopefully my will power will

maintain itself...) Oh and I havent really started to

excercise wholeheartedly yet - I am walking 45mins at

lunch time per day.

I had the swedish adjustable band, I am having my

first fill next Monday, I am nervous but I am looking

forward to losing my weight over the next year or

so...

PS where do you live michael and who is doing your

surgery?

Kind regards

Hinson

Have to reiterate what Cath said. Please don't think that all of us didn't

go through the same things you are, so we are here to be your sounding

boards. I had the op 7 weeks ago and know that it was the best money I have

ever spent on myself, and believe me, I have never spent that much on ME in

one go! Even as little at 12kg has made soooooo much difference to the way

I feel (inside and out).

If you need a little inspiration, just look at the achievements of the

people in this group. There have been some truly amazing losses, with some

problems thrown in so that you know it's not all fool proof.

Whatever you do - DON'T CANCEL unless you really don't want to go ahead.

If you need to chat to somebody live, please email me and I'll give you my

phone numbers.

Cheers

Hi Folks..

well only 3 weeks to go (14/9) till my surgery... I am feeling very

apprehensive about whether this is right for me (even considered

cancelling), had a bad weekend..one of those " i hate myself " episode's very

emotional if you know what I mean.. I have some great support around me and

lots of love..which i appreciate.. i still feel though as much as they care

they can't really grasp what is going on with me..

Sorry to bring a downer to the group today..but not feeling very happy.

Hey Mikey

Hang in there. Most of us are worried about doing this for a host of

reasons. I know I was terrified I would never be able to have fun with food

again. Hoestly, I have not found it too bad. The restriction, after the

first swelling, is gradual, so you have a bit of time to let your head catch

up with what has happened to your body.

It is one of the best things I have ever done for myself.

Love, Liz

Hello Mike,

It all takes time - it is very hard to wait once you've made the decision -

I waited six months to get time off work.

But it gives you time to sort out what kind of lifestyle you want and that

is something you can start right now.

It is an operation that can be reversed for whatever reason, but once you

have started your downward run on the scales, you won't be sorry. Read Bruce

Mackie's mail. He posts sometimes - in fact he is on today, and he is a

great success story. We Brisbane Bandsters have followed Bruce through his

triumph for over a year now and he has lots to tell. Better still, go into

the archives and read other's stories. For those of us who have had lots to

lose, we all went through these fears and worries, but noneof us would

regret it now.

Be confident you are doing a great thing. You are taking action and that is

great - a giant leap forward that we all had to take.

Hope you can come to one of our meetings. The date of the next one in

Bribane will be posted soon.

Cheers

Dianne

Its really very easy, 2.2lbs equals 1kg (or close enough to it).
