Hello Jean,

You asked...

>Just curious, when you have the hysteroscopic exams, do *you* get to

see things on the monitor (or do they not offer to let you see too)?

A: Yes, there should be a color monitor that can be pointed your direction.

You should be able to see everything your doctor is seeing. They can even

print photos for you if you like. But ask these questions of your doctor

before you have this test.

The images are much better than with an U/S. You can see the surface of the

tissues and the blood vessels. You should be able to see if the fibroids

are pedunculated or not. But if your fibs are very large, your doctor may

not be able to see all of them. Since I had three resections, my doctor was

not sure just how many fibs I had growing in the endo cavity. As soon as he

would remove several in the first surgery, more would pop into the cavity

that were under pressure from the larger ones he removed. It seemed like I

had a never-ending supply. So after the second surgery, the endo cavity was

open enough for an in-office hysteroscopic exam again. This time he was

able to estimate how many were left to remove.

If your fibs are quite large, over 15cm, it may be difficult for your

surgeon to remove them via resection surgery. But do ask so that you're

sure.

Best wishes,

Sonja :)
