Guest guest
To Becky: If you want to consider UAE, in fact it doesn't really matter how many fibroids you have. The only consideration really is what type they are, since there can be issues with pendunculated fibroids (on a stalk). However in some cases those can be removed as a separate procedure from the UAE. Size can be cited as another factor (as in, how large is too large) but there are a lot of discussions on that topic, as quite a few women have undergone the procedure with fairly large (over 17cm) fibroids although the level of shrinkage with fibroids that are so large in some cases is not what was hoped for. With UAE, the fibroids do shrink (in some cases very gradually) after the procedure. But, they also soften (and this happens more quickly.) So symptom relief is frequently the result even if the % of shrinkage is not real high. The only way to tell, really, about the nature of your fibroids is through an MRI since an ultrasound just won't provide adequate detail. There are quite a few women on this group who have had the procedure (myself included, with excellent results) and there is also another group called 'embo' here on yahoo that is more exclusively devoted to that treatment option. best, laurie g.
