Guest guest
About those millions of annual pap exams being performed on hysterectomized women with no cervix. I am just plain dumbfounded . . . . Can anyone out there think of any other body part which doctors would pretend to examine when they KNEW you didn’t have one. I mean other than maybe a few totally unscrupulous doctors?? Even if a women went to a doctor ASKING for a pap smear and the doctor noticed that she didn’t have a cervix (which a doc would HAVE to notice if s/he was trying to examine it) -- why in heaven’s name would that doc then pretend to examine it and remove material from it anyway – and then send that material to a lab to be further examined, and bill insurance companies for all this????? And, why are those insurance companies paying for these exams of nonexistent body parts? This is like a really sick version of the Emporer's New Clothes !! And, what really gets me, is they’re saying “well, you know, women get used to doing that and they just want to keep it up” – oh, ya women are rushing into medical offices in droves just demanding to get in the stirrups and have someone poke around up their vaginas (dream on docs). I smell a HUGE epedemic of “blame the patient syndrome” AGAIN. Has it ever occurred to any of these docs to try EDUCATING their patients? Explain to them what a pap smear tests, what a cervix is, and that they don’t have one any longer?? -- Maybe even try explaining BEFORE hysterectomy what exactly it entails? (possibly even that the patient actually could have a CHOICE about keeping her cervix or not?) ---- -- Explain to them why it wouldn’t help anything for them to have pretend pap smears? They go around telling us that the only way to be sure of getting rid of one disease -- fibroids -- is the rip out the entire uterus. Then when they’ve taken out the entire uterus, they go around testing it for dreaded diseases, even though it’s no longer there. What a bunch of baloney! And these are the very same doctors who think they should be “protected” from claims against them!!!! What about all the claims they’ve made for payment for cervical exams of non-existent cervixes? (and what really is the plural of cervix?)???? - and how do these docs define " fraudulent " anyway???? * * * * * ladies: If you've never seen your own cervix, I recommend you do so as soon as possible. Get familiar with your own body for goodnes sakes. ********* For in Michigan: Try the archives. You'll have to search back quite a way -- but: A member named " Glitter " from Michigan had a myo at Univ. Hospital in Ann Arbor (my birthplace). You could look for her posts. Also there were women in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids - who I believe were using a Grand Rapids medical group. And Terri from the Detroit area used Bradley at the Cleveland Clinic I believe. I would try searching on " Glitter " , " Grand Rapids " , " Kalamazoo " , and " Cleveland " for that info. Once you find the right people, you can search on their screen names for all of their posts. -- Or just try searching " Mich " and see what you can come up with. Good luck with finding some of this info.
